Over…Arizona is not a very patient team so hopefully he can get some quick outs.

Equally hopeful that Reynolds doesn’t take a few out on him. Guy has been money lately and he was killing balls to LF during BP.

Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

so Werth should be the new leadoff hitter?

by Bilzo on Jul 27, 2010 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions

what I’m getting at here is Chollie is very set in his ways with the bullpen. Lidge isn’t available tonight, which leaves 4 innings for:
Baez (no faith…demoted to mopup)
Durbin (7th inning guy)
Romero (late inning Loogy)
Madson (set up or close)
Contreras (set up or close)

That leaves Herndon to pitch now.

I’m also having some fun here. He’s got just over 100 ABs at AAA. He hasn’t hit lefties for power, all 5 of his HRs have also come at home and against rightys. Ideally he would have been great as a CF platoon with Vic after 9/1.

I think this is a great time to call up Brown.

The rest of the team is hitting, finally, so the pressure is off. He’ll play every day, so he won’t lose his timing. And frankly they’ll need his speed if Rollins misses more than another game or two.

by dajafi on Jul 27, 2010 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

they’re hitting tonight. I think the pressure will be on him whenever he comes up.

by Bilzo on Jul 27, 2010 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

agree. I still think he’s best used as a platoon vs. rightys. If he gets creative Manuel can probably mix n match with Francisco, Werth, Ibanez, Brown.

by Wet Luzinski on Jul 27, 2010 10:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought that at first, but IIRC he’s had no platoon split in the minors.

by dajafi on Jul 27, 2010 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions

well, he’s not been atrocious vs LHP at AAA – so there’s no OBP dropoff per se, but the power at LHV has been quirky to say the least.
