Baby Snakes: Diamondbacks at Phillies Game Thread, July 27, 2010
Arizona Diamondbacks at Philadelphia Phillies, Jul 27, 2010 7:05 PM EDT
The newly Dan Haren-less Arizona Diamondbacks kick off a three game series in Philadelphia tonight.
Rodrigo Lopez, who unbelievably started five games for the Phillies in 2009, faces off against Cole Hamels, who is coming off arguably the best start of his big league career last week in St. Louis.
Discuss the game below.

Over…Arizona is not a very patient team so hopefully he can get some quick outs.
Equally hopeful that Reynolds doesn’t take a few out on him. Guy has been money lately and he was killing balls to LF during BP.
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

by LeepinLizardz on Jul 27, 2010 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions
what I’m getting at here is Chollie is very set in his ways with the bullpen. Lidge isn’t available tonight, which leaves 4 innings for:
Baez (no faith…demoted to mopup)
Durbin (7th inning guy)
Romero (late inning Loogy)
Madson (set up or close)
Contreras (set up or close)
That leaves Herndon to pitch now.
Is Herndon really more valuable, maybe thats not the right word…but should he be on the roster instead of Worley or Mathieson?
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.
5-8-10...the day the Purdue Boilermakers basketball team won the 2011 NCAA Championship!!

Glad to see the big bats are working tonight. Got home in time to load up GameCast and first pitch was the Ransom home run. Nice.

Solid Triple-A debut for Vance Worley tonight: 6 scoreless innings, 7 strikeouts, 1 walk.
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.
5-8-10...the day the Purdue Boilermakers basketball team won the 2011 NCAA Championship!!
he didn’t have much left to prove at AA, and only has about 50-75 innings in his 2010 tank. Might as well be at a higher level.

Apparently he has like 25 scoreless innings in a row. 3 starts for the iron pigs, an inning for the phillies, 1 for reading, and an inning in the all-star game. All scoreless.

Got it backwards, 3 starts for reading, 1 for Lehigh. Same deal though.

Werth in Center
No chance of trading him now. We have no other options.

I’m also having some fun here. He’s got just over 100 ABs at AAA. He hasn’t hit lefties for power, all 5 of his HRs have also come at home and against rightys. Ideally he would have been great as a CF platoon with Vic after 9/1.

That was what i originally thought.
I mean, is this enough reason to call up Brown? Our bench is growing thin with these injuries.

I think this is a great time to call up Brown.
The rest of the team is hitting, finally, so the pressure is off. He’ll play every day, so he won’t lose his timing. And frankly they’ll need his speed if Rollins misses more than another game or two.
agree. I still think he’s best used as a platoon vs. rightys. If he gets creative Manuel can probably mix n match with Francisco, Werth, Ibanez, Brown.

well, he’s not been atrocious vs LHP at AAA – so there’s no OBP dropoff per se, but the power at LHV has been quirky to say the least.

I hope this is not the case.

More effective than Brown? Possibly. Brown hasn’t exactly lite the world on fire in AAA. And he still as work to do. Mayberry has some ML experience and can be serviceable in the mean time.
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

Brown’s done a pretty good job in AAA. Not amazing, but pretty damn good. But he does need some more time.

I’ve heard that a call-up now versus september doesn’t affect his status at all. It would take until next June for it to start the clock later.

Sure but for as much as some people complain about Howard striking out or hitting a home run, Reynolds has turned it into an art form.
