Stat Notes - July 28
Added to the Front Page, snack-size Phillies stats that pair beautifully with your gametime Newky Brown. -Ed.
A few quick observations...
The Phils are back up to 3rd in the NL in Runs (and R/G), behind Cincinnati and Milwaukee.
They've had a couple more since then, but Kendrick's sacrifice on Saturday was the Phillies' first in 19 games.
Howard's OPS against lefties is up to .856, and he's 2nd in the majors in RBIs vs. LHPs with 27, behind only Teixeira (28).
Polanco's .318 is 4 points off the NL batting average lead. With Howard 2 back in HRs and leading in RBIs, the Phils have a shot at taking all three Triple Crown categories.
Werth continues to lead in doubles (now tied with Torres) at 32, and is 2nd in extra base hits.
Howard leads the NL in Total Bases, and is 6th in extra base hits. He is also tied for 2nd in hits behind only Prado.
In a side show stat (anybody know how it's calculated?), after leading all MLB 1st basemen in Speed Score in 2009, Howard is 5th this year.
That's all for now...

About the Phillies sweeping the triple crown categories, I should add that with the BA bar set so low this year in the NL, any of a number of sluggers could win the whole thing with a good 2-month streak:
Current stats and NL rank:
Votto .322-26-70 (1-1-3)
Wright .301-15-69 (10-25-5)
Howard .299-23-81 (11-4-1)
Pujols .298-23-71 (13-4-2)
Gonzales .294-21-65 (16-10-7)
