Who's That? BROOWWWWWN: Diamondbacks at Phillies Game Thread, July 28, 2010
Arizona Diamondbacks at Philadelphia Phillies, Jul 28, 2010 7:05 PM EDT
And so the Domonic Brown Era (no pressure kid) begins tonight in Philadelphia, as CF Shane Victorino was placed on the Disabled List, and the Triple-A RF has been called to the majors to replace him. Jayson Werth will slide over to center field.
Tonight will see a matchup of the Diamondbacks' Edwin Jackson, the Diamondbacks starter who famously pitched a very sloppy eight walk no-hitter last month, and the Phillies' Roy Halladay, who was just a little more clean an economical with his perfect game this Memorial Day weekend.
Fun fact: Jackson was born in (West) Germany.
Discuss the game below.

T-Mac says “the most heralded player in the Phils’ system since Ryan Howard”.
Hmmm, you think Cole Hamels would take issue with that at all? Or do pitchers not count? I thought he was pretty heralded—I recall lots of screaming to bring him up already.

So if Ryan Howard is already nicknamed Big Brown among other things…what could Dom Brown be called? Little Brown? Big Brown Lite? Or nothing since he hasn’t done anything yet?
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

I’d have been a little reticent to call him that but I’ve heard his teammates applied the nickname so it’s good to go AFAIC.

Yeah I am the same way…saying it out loud seemed slightly racist but like you said…his team mates call him that so I guess it’s cool.

If he’s going to be up here he has to play. I don’t like that approach, if you bring him up here it’s only good if he’s playing almost everyday. You’d be better off with Mayberry if they wanted a platoon.

Sheets injury history includes: 3 surgeries – one for an elbow (missed last season), another for a broken ankle, and one for herniated disc. Also he has torn a tendon in his right middle finger, torn his latissimus dorsi muscle in his right shoulder (season ending) and has had a few bouts of tendonitsis in right shoulder. Over the last 3 seasons he’s averaged 21 starts.
But yeah his first few years were relatively smooth if you could believe it.

I’m likely wrong, but well, it sure feels that way.
For all of you talking about getting a Brown jersey, I’d reccommend waiting just a little bit. IIRC, Howard’s early number was NOT 6..I think he started with 4 for a few games and then switched. Brown might not hold onto 9.

Inning here…inning there, it adds up.
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.
5-8-10...the day the Purdue Boilermakers basketball team won the 2011 NCAA Championship!!
That’s because in Toronto he had nothing to pitch for. Playoffs weren’t really an option.

Certainly a possibility. I like to error on the side of caution when I can.

5-8-10...the day the Purdue Boilermakers basketball team won the 2011 NCAA Championship!!
I don’t have a problem with that. It’s just an arbritary decision either way.. to keep him in or to pull him, no strong arguments on either side.
I suppose not.
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.
5-8-10...the day the Purdue Boilermakers basketball team won the 2011 NCAA Championship!!
I would have no problem seeing Lidge in a 6 run game but then inevitably he would throw 45 pitches, get used the next night in a high pressure(save) situation and be rusty and make us all want to punch things.
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

One good reason to pull him would be to put another guy in. You have any good young relievers who need innings?
Good…yes…young…no…but we have guys like Herndon who could benefit from a situation like that.
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

he is at 104 pitches why not? If a hit happens then lift.

so here is a hypothetical:
If Dom continues this production through the next 15 days what happens to him when Victorino is back??
Maybe Dobbs wasn’t our worst player tonight.

The idea of RyHo causes disruption to the other team, even if he doesn’t produce. A bad RyHo is better than a good Dobbs.

Had an ugly looking catch for an out and then dove and missed for another catch (bad fielding mistake) that cost Roy the SO.
