Stat Notes - July 30
A couple of notes related to the arrival of Roy the 2nd...
NL rank, out of 52 qualifiers
| ERA | FIP | xFIP | SIERA | WHIP | GB/FB | |||||
| Halladay | 2 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 7 | ||||
| Oswalt | 19 | 11 | 6 | 6 | 6 | 31 | ||||
| Hamels | 22 | 35 | 15 | 12 | 27 | 34 | ||||
Halladay: as advertised
Oswalt: strong argument as the #2 ahead of Hamels, although the GB/FB rate is worrisome
Hamels: pitching better than this since mid-May
Parks
There was one report that Oswalt is not a fan of CBP, and given his GB/FB rate, that may be understandable. However CBP is no more HR-friendly than Minute Maid Park, and in fact for the last two years CBP has been essentially neutral for both HRs, and scoring overall. These are the park factors (and NL rank) for the past 2+ years (for the uninitiated, >1.0 means it helps the hitter):
Homeruns:
| CBP | NL rank | MMP | NL rank | |
| 2008 | 1.022 | 7 | 1.155 | 4 |
| 2009 | 1.005 | 10 | 1.065 | 5 |
| 2010 | 1.155 | 4 | 1.134 | 6 |
Overall Scoring:
| CBP | NL rank | MMP | NL rank | |
| 2008 | 1.029 | 9 | 1.036 | 8 |
| 2009 | 1.028 | 7 | 0.93 | 12 |
| 2010 | 0.987 | 9 | 0.897 | 14 |
- MMP has been a little friendlier to the homerun (a bit less so so far this year).
- MMP has been surprisingly pitcher-friendly overall, given that it's slightly above average in allowing homers
- CBP is boosting homers some so far this year after being neutral the past 2 years
- CBP has been one of the most offense-neutral parks in the NL (and MLB overall)

Yes yes, but RA Dickey is just as good as Oswalt and better than Hamels, no matter what your fancy stats say.
