Around SBN: Shaq As Orlando Magic General Manager? Don't Bet On It

Not really Phillies related, but I always liked Willis, even though with his oddball mechanics I should have seen his struggles coming from a mile away. He was never destined to be an Ace (IMO), but his struggles the last few years have been painful to watch. He's still young, and could figure things out before entering the typical prime years for a pitcher, but I can't imagine anyone is itching to claim him at this point.

I believe he has been diagonised with an anxiety disorder which could be the culprit, however that might be hard to assess since he refuses to take medication for it. Maybe Tom Cruise and his band of merry Scientologists put the whammie on him.

It’s the chicken or the egg argument. He’s had control issues (on the field) for the better part of 5 years, but the Anxiety thing just popped up a few years ago.

Though I agree, when in doubt blame Tom Cruise (or Wet Luzinski).

Although I question whether the anxiety issues were not around longer than he admitted— it is tough to come out about mental issues, and he may have been hiding it for quite a while before it came out.

Agreed. It’s still a chicken/egg issue to me. Did Anxiety issues feed into poor performances or did porr performances trigger his anxiety problems.

Oh yeah, the prophet Wet Luzinski with his damn baseball poetry incantations.

Ha. The prophet without honor in his own land & such.

I’d kick the tires on the guy because of his youth, but what I’d really like to know is the kind of treatment he’s on and his compliance (or lack thereof). My only hunch is that the Marlins and Tigers are not particularly progressive organizations with the dough to spend on psychologists, much less good ones.

Sports psychologist should be standard on any team.

I realize DFA stands for Delegated For Assignment, but every time I see that acronym, my brain replaces it with Death From Above.

Honor is no substitute for victory.

I’m still always going to associate him with that 2003 Marlins team that ripped my heart out.

Dontrell Willis Signed to Minor League Deal

Dontrell Willis signed a minor league deal with San Francisco. Considering San Francisco’s needs, he is probably little more than organizational filler, but I hope that he is able to get it back together and to show in his time down in the minor leagues that he is capable of being the pitcher he was projected to be.
