I know this has nothing to do with anything, but I had a funny experience last night and just wanted to share. I'm down here in Ocean City, Maryland this week, so I thought I would take in a Delmarva Shorebirds game last night. They were playing the Lexington Legends.
Probably no more than a couple thousand people in attendance, if that, and the stadium was dead silent. Right when the top of the 3rd inning is about to get underway, the P.A. announcer blares out that it's the Papa John's sponsor night, and if the leadoff hitter strikes out, everybody gets a free pizza. Well, the kid who is supposed to hit leadoff is taking practice swings at the plate. He hears this announcement and looks around the stadium in complete disbelief.
Every person in that previously deaf stadium is now screaming every type of pizza based snark/obscenity imaginable. "Hey dipshit, I like pepperoni"... etc... etc.. etc.. First pitch, foul ball. The snark intensifies. Second pitch, swing and a miss. By now the crowd is truly in a frenzy. Third pitch... STRIKE OUT. The crowd goes bananas, the kid throws down his helmet and storms back to the dugout. I truly felt terrible for this kid, but it was undeniably hilarious. And everytime he came to the plate thereafter, he was cascaded with sarcasm and thanks.
I have never seen a promo quite like that before. Anybody else have any bush league funny promo stories?
