Aisenstein, a Phillies season-ticket holder, had returned home from a game June 26, 1980. She then decided to take her nightly walk with her dog. She never returned home.
Wait, so this elderly woman was a long-time Phillies fan, and was murdered in June 1980... four months before they won their first World Series? Let me say THAT SUCKS.

Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

Thank goodness his idiotic journey didn’t take him into Pennsylvania.

I guess not everyone who has a favorable view of her writing is completely crazy : )

not to rehash that whole argument…but I acknowledge the book did contain quite a few flaws in thinking, so you have to remember that it is fiction.
I think if people appreciate it for that reason, than it can be entertaining/fine reading. It’s when people take it too seriously, a la The Catcher in the Rye told me to kill John Lennon or the book inspired me to start a new religion, that I have an issue with certain fiction.

Chad Billingsley vs. Tommy Hanson tonight. Hopefully the Dodgers bats do something.
I would imagine that this would have been the ESPN Monday night game, except that they’re doing Preseason Monday Night Football instead now.
Agreed, although it is looking like it maybe Gload that disappears when Utley and/or Howard returns. I think he is going to wind up on the DL.

Is it me or does Sweeney look like he is having the time of his life playing with the Phils?
"Call me dumb, call me stupid, whatever. I block shots."
I’m sure he is. If I recall correctly, he was loyal almost to a fault in Kansas City over the years, so this is the only winning team he’s ever played for — and 83-79 is really only “winning” if we’re talking semantics. Sweeney’s just loving life playing for a team with legitimate playoff aspirations.

agreed. Dude plays good defense so far (not sure what his UZR is or anything like that, but I haven’t seen him muff a throw to 2nd yet…partially because he hasn’t had to make one)…seems to make good contact and is always smiling. That’s one of the reasons I always liked Vic and Howard….they look like they’re having fun.
Yup… I think that is the thing about Victorino that draws my eye. Howard as well, although he also has the long ball thing going for him!

I got his autograph last night
"Bills everywhere, trill everything, and Drake just stand for Do Right And Kill Everything..."
Definitely- I am glad that he is enjoying his time here. While his time here will almost definitely be short, it would be great for him and Halladay to get their first taste of the playoffs this year!

ESPN was just discussing Strasburgs’ comments, which are kind of funny. “If he doesn’t want to play here, then we don’t want him here.”
Lex clavatoris designati rescindenda est.
Here’s what SS really wanted to say: “He’d better not sign for more than what I received.”
Lex clavatoris designati rescindenda est.
Considering the commissioner’s position on paying draft picks above slot (he does not like the deals announced until practically the deadline so as to not drive the market up), is it possible that Strasburg had a deal with the Nats a couple weeks or so before the deadline, but the parties agreed to not announce until just before the deadline?

Probably something like this, and also Scott Boras is a fantastic bastard (which I say with some appreciable admiration)

Scott Boras is fantastic only in the sense that he is good at what he does.
But then, so was Himmler.
Yes, look it up.

In Mets news, K-Rod tore a ligament in his thumb during the fiance’s dad beatdown so he’s probably out for the year.
I saw that
And, well, all “there’s nothing funny about domestic violence” caveats aside, how choice is this?

there really should be a Nelson Muntz Award for the Stupidest DL Stints of the Year. The competition is mighty fierce this year.

way, way better. And the beauty part is, we still don’t know the reason behind the fight, except that it’s got to be gooooooood.

Better because he is on the other team or just better?

He tore a ligament punching his girlfriend’s dad…plenty of players have broken and torn things when punching inanimate objects, but he did it punching a living thing (which is not enough in itself, I admit) who is the father of his significant other in the family lounge of his home stadium and was subsequently arrested and charged. That shit makes Madson’s form of self-harm look mundane.
Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will.
True. Maybe it is this part where he punched a somebody that to me makes it just depressing instead of weird/ funny.

Chris Coghlan, too.
I don’t know what’s sadder, that we score a run off a guy pitching with an injured thumb on his pitching hand, or that the Mets medical staff actually let a guy with an injured thumb on his pitching hand pitch in a game.
On the plus side for K-Rod, at least he didn’t hurt the fingers that he points to the heavens with.

Staff might not have known given all of the drahmah, but it certainly doesn’t help the reputation of that staff after last year. Then again, the Phillies supposedly had bottled medical magic until this year.
by Wet Luzinski on Aug 16, 2010 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions
From reports I have read, K-Rod only told them he was in pain after the game on Saturday. If he had not complained before, I am not sure how responsible the medical staff should be for not catching it. How many people tear ligaments in their hands punching someone.

Do I buy tickets for tomorrow night?
I wanted to go and see Chase when he comes back. There is only one set of three tickets for tomorrow night left. Do I buy them now?
I would suggest buying them in 10 minutes, but not now.
Possibly even 20 minutes. You never want to rush into things.
