Let's Go Mets! One Week Only.

The New York Mets travel to Atlanta for a four game set with the Braves.  The Mets could help the Phillies an awful lot this week, so send some positive vibes their way.  How will you be cheering on the Mets?  Some tips:

* Trim a "linebeard" - You know what I'm talking about.

* Mock Philadelphia for being a second-class city while you yourself live in a dilapidated rowhome in Nassau County or West Orange, and have never visited or taken advantage of any of the cultural abundance of New York City save a trip to the Disney Store in Times Square.

* Engage in hysterical rhetoric - Trade David Wright, sell to Jay-Z, etc.  Basically, act exactly like a circa 2005 Phillies fan.

Other ideas?

(All in good fun, Mets fans.  Rip into Philadelphia, there's ample material.)

If only...

the Mets could think of an original, clever, and cool mascot like the Braves…

Still mock Brett Myers...

…as if KRod and Santana scandals never happened.

I’m working on my “Jose, Jose, Jose” chant.

Wow, this is tough to do even when it helps the Phillies.

You know, I’m actually finding it to be a bit easier than I’d expected. I mean, they’re so cuddly and harmless this year…

I feel kind of sorry for them, actually, because I have several friends who are Mets’ fans. Listening to them talk about the team sounds like me circa 2002.

It’s not too hard for me when they’re playing an incredibly loathsome team like the Braves. If it was the Cards or Giants or something, it might be tough.

It is tough. I know that the Mets do not have much chance of winning the division or stealing away the wild card, but rooting for them still makes me feel dirty somehow…

But Jose may not play- he is having issues with his oblique and is expected to miss at least tonight and probably more.

Crap. That doesn’t help our chances.

I can't root for the Mets. Even against Atlanta.

I can root for them to have a bench-clearing brawl in the 1st, with lengthy suspensions handed down to key players on both teams. Followed by lengthy and intermittnent rain delays in a tie score situation, requiring lots of extras.

By the Power of Numbskull!

I just hope the Mets’ pitchers packed their shutout pants. They should share that particular love around.

What is this I don’t even know.

You know, having lived in a dilapidated row house in West Orange at one point in my life….

“searches for a comeback”

by WanderingMoses on Aug 30, 2010 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

Ah, what’s the use? The Mets are a worthless franchise and the only team they seem to be able to beat this season is the Phillies (inexplicably). The Braves will sweep.

We need the late inning Braves collapse instead of their typical comeback. Not sure their lineup can get it done though.

Coming from a Mets fan…I really can’t stand the Braves. You guys have been a pain in the ass since 07, but my hatred for the Braves goes back to the late 90s when they always embarrassed us. I hope we can do a better job playing spoiler, because I do not want to see these guys in the playoffs. Good luck the rest of the way.

You understand us because, stripped of a few idiosyncrisies, we’re you. New York fans and Philadelphia fans are pretty much the same personality type, shaped by the same cultural factors. (I should know: I live in Brooklyn, and most of my close friends are Mets fans.)

Maybe most of all, we support our teams when they’re winning, unlike the baseball-illiterate douchebags of Georgia.

I loathe the effing Braves. Please win at least one or two this week.

At least they were losing then...

1st place in the NL east. What’s their excuse now?

wednesday

It’s 7:25 p.m. and the Mets are already screwing the pooch again. Yeesh.

I hate to say I told you so...

But see my post from 8/30…I’ll happily eat my own head if I’m wrong.
