Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

The Phillies have added pitchers Scott Mathieson, Vance Worley, and Nate Robertson to the active roster. Robertson and Worley arrived in Philadelphia on Saturday night, Mathieson is expected today. How's that splitter coming?

Ooooohhh

Man, I’m hopeful, guys – this year could be the year for me! My fastball velocity is up to 45MPH. And I’m only throwing 4 wild pitches an inning. Man, will this phone EVER RING?

Mine used to be 85 MPH (in the 9th grade, that is), and now I am lucky to get a pitch up to 55, never mind trying to throw any breaking pitches. Ouch.

Well

At least you can say you had the heat! I actually don’t even know if I could break 40MPH if I tried, sadly. I have no idea. I need to buy a radar gun.

But

The thing about the wild pitches was true.

This is fun news— I look forward to seeing more of Mathieson.

GO PHILS!

Hope he gets to play, and does well

Mathieson was your basic minor league goner. Gotta salute the guy’s perseverance.

Why is there a Buddhist temple on the sleeve of the R-Phils jersey?

It’s a prominent regional landmark. I spent lots of time in Reading as a tot, so it doesn’t seem that out-of-place to me.

is there any word on how the splitter has progressed for Mathieson?

by PSUcup1 on Sep 5, 2010 12:11 PM EDT reply actions

Judging by today, not quite there yet.

According to an article on AtBat, it is something he is still tinkering with. While he ibtends to work in it more in the off season, he is already able tothrow it for strikes.
