Milwaukee Brewers at Philadelphia Phillies, Sep 5, 2010 1:35 PM EDT
The Phillies go for the home sweep today verus former Phillie Randy Wolf, who is not really having his best season. He'll be opposed by Kyle Kendrick, who is, well you know...

Sorry. Had to get that out of the way.

Braves got a run back
6-1 Marlins heading into the bottom of the 5th.
The best thing about Tim Tebow is his former roommate.
If someone before the season said that we were competing for a division title and Kyle Kendrick was starting at least 27 games, would you believe him?
Yes
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.
5-8-10...the day the Purdue Boilermakers basketball team won the 2011 NCAA Championship!!
Maybe yes
But probably not if you’d said his ERA was 4.71.

Not I, because he wasn’t even in the projected rotation at the start of the season.
by WanderingMoses on Sep 5, 2010 1:41 PM EDT up reply actions
True. The projected start of the season rotation was Halladay, Hamels, Blanton, Happ, Moyer, but Blanton got hurt before the season ever started so we needed to use Kendrick, who was the odd man out at the start of the season. All that being said, injuries happen, while not seeing this much of Kendrick was not necessarily expected, it is hardly surprising seeing as he was always #6 this year.
The best thing about Tim Tebow is his former roommate.
Yes both because I was impressed with his Spring training (I had thought he would win the job, particularly when Moyer struggled early), and because I expected the team to win more for Halladay and Hamels than it has.

Bottom of the 5th, Marlins still lead it 6-1.

I’m not watching the game live (Rutgers TV has no Philly channels) and when MLB.com said “Curveball” I said “double play”. This is going to be an aggravating game.

Amend that, “solely” right handed hitters are doing well.

Well since this team already exercised Jimmy’s option for next year, I can only pray that he somehow becomes a viable offensive weapon next year.

When the Marlins have a 6-1 lead and manage to give up two runs with the bases loaded and no outs, it’s time to scoreboard watch. Another run just got walked in.

Happ as a fourth/fifth starter… sigh.

I don’t have the good fortune of being in the Philly area right now. I get maybe 9 Phillies games on TV at college and get probably 6 Eagles games a season here. It’s rough. Thus I did not see what happened.

Understood. Though apparently there was an error charged on the throw, the Phillies did get 2 runs home on a sacrifice.

That I’ve caught up on. Nonetheless, the Marlins did not get a recorded error so there is some sort of failure on their point.

I am pretty sure someone said that a grand slam was taken away, but a terrible throw to the IF resulted in a 2nd run scoring. But that should count as an error, no? The Marlins still have 0 errors in this game.
The best thing about Tim Tebow is his former roommate.
It’s up to the scorer to decide, which is why errors aren’t a great statistic (look at Honus Wagner’s career numbers; he’s still considered one of the greatest fielding shortstops ever).

they still have Hoffman who despite scuffling mightily this year is still used for the occassion save. Besides why not use your best for their best.
Not a bad way of looking at it. Unusual unless you’re planning on keeping him in anyway, but not a bad way to match up in a save situation.

Kendrick's kERA is lower now!
Unfortunately, this is because instead of being inconsistent, he is now just stinking. Last four outings ER allowed: 5 ,4, 4, 5. All 6 innings or less.
We now want his kERA to go up, with several Kwality outings. Or get Vance in.
Raul Ibanez: since Moyer is on the DL, he is fast becoming our favorite old guy.
Rooting against a certain LW for the Tampa Bay Lightning will be impossible.

Glad we got to see Bastardo and Mathieson. Mathieson just cant get ML hitters out with just a fastball. Lets hope the sinker experiment works out.
Also nice to have Madson and Lidge rested going into tomorrow.
Not sure if you can really make any judgments on Mathieson as an MLB pitcher yet. The sample size is incredibly small and Charlie put him smack in the middle of a high pressure situation, not ideal for a relief pitcher making his 1st MLB appearance in a few months.
The best thing about Tim Tebow is his former roommate.
There’s only one one trick pony in MLB: Rivera with his cutter. Matheison must get a viable breaking pitch. If all a ML batter has to do is wait on a 97 mph 4 seamer, chances are it’s getting raked. A split finger fastball which is what Sutter is working on with him might be it. the answer. I thought he had a viable slider, but my impression from the farm updates is that he’s still pretty inconsistient with that pitch.
