Not all that surprising considering that today is a double header. I would not be surprised if Polanco does not play tonight- both have been banged up this year, and I doubt that 18 innings would be good for either of them).

Really excited to see our potentially new #5 in action.

I think he is only a potential starter if he does well. Otherwise he is just someone making a spot start.

Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

Something is wrong with Raul’s arm this year. It used to be his only real asset in the field.

I seem to remember a lawn dart in Seattle…

by dannijd on Sep 6, 2010 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, still better than Kendrick.

by taco pal on Sep 6, 2010 1:16 PM EDT reply actions

What happened… poor throw by Raul?

by TwistyWristy on Sep 6, 2010 1:16 PM EDT reply actions

Yup, compounded by Schneider over throwing Utley.

by dannijd on Sep 6, 2010 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Raul sailed a 2 seamer to the dugout side of third, followed by Schneider sailing a 2 seamer over Utley’s head.

by WanderingMoses on Sep 6, 2010 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess run would have scored anyway though.

Way to work the count Raul.

by philsandthrills on Sep 6, 2010 2:23 PM EDT reply actions

He was probably responding to his first AB, where he took and got behind.

by taco pal on Sep 6, 2010 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t understand why we didn’t give Dom Brown a start here.

by philsandthrills on Sep 6, 2010 2:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe he’ll get the 7:00.

by taco pal on Sep 6, 2010 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Just realized that.
Raul is not only 0 for 2, but he’s also probably missed two outs on the basepaths throwing. Just an awful day.

by philsandthrills on Sep 6, 2010 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Just one out on the basepaths. He wouldn’t have gotten an out in the first inning regardless. Still, the overall point holds.

by taco pal on Sep 6, 2010 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions

The run eventually didn’t score, but him missing the cutoff allowed the runner to advance to 2nd. So I count that against him.

by philsandthrills on Sep 6, 2010 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, but it wasn’t a “missed out,” it was an extra base.

by taco pal on Sep 6, 2010 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Okay, yes, I was wrong on that.

That first pitch on TV looked way out many have and Worley pitches them and they are called balls seems biased. Not to mention every meatball the marlins dude throws all to the Phils have just watched them go by.

5-8-10...the day the Purdue Boilermakers basketball team won the 2011 NCAA Championship!!

by EREX21 on Sep 6, 2010 3:46 PM EDT reply actions

I always heard it as not stealing bases when you are X runs up, not down.

I guess what rankled them about Morgan is that he appeared to be doing it out of spite, rather than “accepting his punishment”. Whatever.

by taco pal on Sep 6, 2010 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions

And not stealing when up X amount of runs at least makes sense. Though I have always been of the belief that you don’t stop trying to score until the game is over. Heck, we saw two 10 run leads evaporate on the same day. Who is to say that X number of runs is safe?

I agree though that it seems like Morgan was stealing bases as a way to trying to be spiteful as opposed to winning a ballgame.

by dannijd on Sep 6, 2010 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah X runs up and stats padding is lame, but why is the other? Are you padding stats because your doing things that have no meaning because the likelhood of winning is so improbable?. If so they should have a Slaughter Rule.

At least there were some signs of life from the offense at the end. I think that’s a good thing for game two, giving a few hitters something positive to build on. I can’t give any statistics but back in the days when doubleheaders were fairly common I think you would see that quite a lot. One team gets blown out in game one but starts to show signs of life at the end, then wins game two.
