The pinch hitter is Eric Hinske.

by taco pal on Sep 6, 2010 4:12 PM EDT reply actions

Gameday indicates that Hanrahan threw two fastballs right down the middle, which were called for balls. Now there’s a called strike.

by taco pal on Sep 6, 2010 4:12 PM EDT reply actions

Full count to Hinske.

The best thing about Tim Tebow is his former roommate.

Hanrahan throws really hard. I don’t think I was fully aware of how hard he throws.

Threw nothing but fastballs to him. Eight straight fastballs, all 97 or 98.

These guys are being given to the Pirates, and I wonder how much it would take to take them off the Pirates hands

1 out in the top of the 9th. All star Omar Infante is at the plate now.

Amen— I am amazed at the dedication of fans of teams that have endured long stretches of their team being bad, without giving up on them.

doubtful

They kinda really hate Philly, though they probably bear some grudge for ’91 and ’92.

It’s hard to remember the brief period when the Phillies and Pirates were big rivals: the mid-70s to early 80s. In the days of the NL East 1.0 (1969-92) the Phillies finished first six times (I count 1981 even though MLB lists Phi as 3rd) and the Pirates finished first nine times. The other four teams had: Chi 2, NY 4, StL 3 (plus 1981 on record but not in the playoffs) and Montreal 1 (if you count 1981). Four times the Pirates finished second to the Phillies, and in 1980 they were a close third. Then, like two ships passing in the night, the three-time division champion Pirates lost Barry Bonds and drifted into perpetual sub-.500 land while the Phillies jumped up and grabbed the division title in 1993. The next year the Pirates moved to the NL Central and the rivalry all but ended.

Actually, their announcers are among the best. They have an insurmountable sense of humor, which one would need for how many losing seasons they’ve had in a row

I can’t believe the Pirates won this game. The Braves scored 1 run in 6 innings against crappy Brian Burres. Awesome.

they must be “playing to their competition” as well.

What’s the next matchup?

by philsandthrills on Sep 6, 2010 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Tim Hudson vs. James “Don’t Call Me Old” McDonald

by taco pal on Sep 6, 2010 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Okay… that’s a bit less likely of a loss.

by philsandthrills on Sep 6, 2010 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions

McDonald was an OK prospect in the Dodgers system for a while who pitched in one of the recent LCS’s against us. Pirates got him at the deadline.

In other pennant chase news

Cardinals 8, Brewers 2, bottom of 8. Yadier Molina just hit a grand slam.
