Phillies Nightcap with Roy: Marlins at Phillies Game Thread the Second, September 6, 2010
Miami Marlins at Philadelphia Phillies, Sep 6, 2010 7:05 PM EDT
The Phillies look to salvage a split in tonight's nightcap versus the Marlins. A victory would bring the Phillies to within just a half game of first place behind the Braves, who fell to the Pirates today by a score of 3-1.
Roy Oswalt takes the ball for the Phillies, and will be opposed by Anibal Sanchez.
Discuss the game below.

Considering the Phillies have blown two chances to tie it up...
Don’t count your wins before they show up.
Giants had 2 outs, none on, and then three straight hits. 2-0 now.

Glad to be back for this one (had to leave to attend a Labor Day picnic earlier) – I also hope this one is much, much better than the first.
Indeed it was. The food and the conversation did a lot to take my mind off the crapfast that was the first game. I watched the first 3 innings and was thoroughly disgusted.

Scary statistic
The Phillies are hitting .192 since returning home from their West Coast trip— sub-Mendoza line hitting is not how one contends.
Would have thought at least .202.

So, my channel caption says I’m watching Marlins at Phillies on MLB Network, but the game they’re showing is the Red Sox-Rays. Is anybody able to see the Phillies on MLB? I guess this just isn’t my day.

I guess they black out the Marlins in Tampa? Maybe the Rays will kill the Red Sox and they will switch to the other game (best hope). On the bright side, at least the Showalters beat the Yankees earlier and I got to hear the Yankees YES announcers complain about tough luck for their team.

I sometimes think he gets that way— I thought that was part of his problem when he was getting all of the strikeouts when he first came back— that he was getting so desperate to get a hit that he was swinging at a lot of garbage.
I also believe that he doesn’t buy the notion that he would be ten times more dangerous if he would just take walks.

Stanton
was 3 for 47 coming into this series. He has 4 hits and 2 HRs in a game and half.
He’s streaky, he goes on crazy tears, and then goes ice cold. I’ve owned him in Fantasy since he was called up, and dropped him/picked him up twice. He’s currently dropped, I plan on picking him back up again. I will, and he’ll go ice cold. Again, I’m willing to sacrifice for the Phils.

or just a little more baseball IQ. 1-2 count, 7-4 lead, with 2 innings left…. shouldn’t swing as a general rule. Your getting an out pitch or a pitcher’s pitch which if you gett caught looking isn’t so bad with a 3 run lead this late in the game.

Winnah!!

2005 Chicago White Sox. 2006 Chicago Rush. 2008 Philadelphia Phillies. 2009-10 Chicago Blackhawks. CHAMPIONS.
The way I see it, the Phillies started the day 1 game out of 1st in the NL East and have ended it .5 out of 1st in the NL East. The day is a (relative) success.
The best thing about Tim Tebow is his former roommate.
How about this? Of the top four teams in NL playoff spots, the Phillies are the only ones not currently in a losing streak.
by phillyinportland on Sep 6, 2010 10:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Giants and Rockies are both on winning streaks.

True
That will make the scoreboard watching even more stressful if they continue to approach the Phillies record overall.
