Phillies Nightcap with Roy: Marlins at Phillies Game Thread the Second, September 6, 2010

Miami Marlins at Philadelphia Phillies, Sep 6, 2010 7:05 PM EDT

The Phillies look to salvage a split in tonight's nightcap versus the Marlins.  A victory would bring the Phillies to within just a half game of first place behind the Braves, who fell to the Pirates today by a score of 3-1.

Roy Oswalt takes the ball for the Phillies, and will be opposed by Anibal Sanchez.

Discuss the game below.

Just saw that… I walk away for a minute to find the pain killers…

by dannijd on Sep 6, 2010 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Glad to be back for this one (had to leave to attend a Labor Day picnic earlier) – I also hope this one is much, much better than the first.

by WanderingMoses on Sep 6, 2010 6:59 PM EDT reply actions

Me too… the first one is part of why i needed the pain killers.

by dannijd on Sep 6, 2010 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I also hope that your picnic was better than the game!

by dannijd on Sep 6, 2010 7:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Indeed it was. The food and the conversation did a lot to take my mind off the crapfast that was the first game. I watched the first 3 innings and was thoroughly disgusted.

by WanderingMoses on Sep 6, 2010 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I was stupid enough to watch the whole game (in large part because I am home to watch the games so rarely).

by dannijd on Sep 6, 2010 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Kind of an important game tonight. Giants are closing ground in a hurry.

by Nikk.m on Sep 6, 2010 7:03 PM EDT reply actions

Important regardless of the Giants, but definitely more important now.

Scary statistic

The Phillies are hitting .192 since returning home from their West Coast trip— sub-Mendoza line hitting is not how one contends.

Would have thought at least .202.

Here in tampa it shows nothing cause the Rays are on local and the Marlins. There is no programing hard to believe

I guess they black out the Marlins in Tampa? Maybe the Rays will kill the Red Sox and they will switch to the other game (best hope). On the bright side, at least the Showalters beat the Yankees earlier and I got to hear the Yankees YES announcers complain about tough luck for their team.

Seems that way. Everything with Howard’s discipline is one step forward, three steps back.

Does he just get it in his head " I am swinging at the next pitch no matter what"?

by Christopher A on Sep 6, 2010 7:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I sometimes think he gets that way— I thought that was part of his problem when he was getting all of the strikeouts when he first came back— that he was getting so desperate to get a hit that he was swinging at a lot of garbage.

by dannijd on Sep 6, 2010 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I also believe that he doesn’t buy the notion that he would be ten times more dangerous if he would just take walks.

Just alittle more heady approach and I think they'd be that much better. Can be frustrating. Never know when the offense will sputter. It's the ome flaw in Manuel's otherwise successful approach. He gives them a little too much free reign. I think that's why see all of this to randomness when it comes to approaches at the plate.
