Carlos Rivero Waived, claimed by Nationals
In related news: Bowker's deal with Satan still appears to be strong.
Not much of a loss, as no one seemed very high on Rivero, in spite of his decent numbers in AA and the piss poor pool of 3rd base prospects in the system.

Okay, I totally freaked out losing this guy until I realized I had been thinking of Makiel Franco. This guy was like the #20 prospect in the system I believe, so yeah, not a huge thing.
Still a less than prudent move. Bowker’s not going to “help now.”

Unlikely Rivero will either. By all accounts his defense was quite suspect and his bat would likely be Valdez like (albeit with a little more pop). His ceiling may well be Yuni Bettancort.
Cone is right though. Unlikely is better than Zero. It doesn’t matter how big Rivero’s flaws are if Bowker is even less likely to help.
I don’t disagree. I’m merely saying it’s not a huge issue. Perhaps Rube, knowing someone had to get cut, figured it was more likely Rivero clear waivers than Bowker. Any moves now would mean cutting Bowker (or, I suppose Hernandez, Diekman or Bello, but I think it’s unlikely he’d risk losing one of them)
This seems like someone (RAJ?) does not want to admit that Bowker was a bad choice.
GMAT verbal section question, Philadelphia sports version.
In 2015, which one of the following will prove to be a better investment?
(a) Ilya Bryzgalov's contract (b) Ryan Howard's extension (c) Mike Vick's extension (d) Greek bonds from 2009 (e) Papelbon's bloat deal
Bowker’s put up some above-average numbers in the minors, owning a career .303/.367/.498 line. I guess I can understand why they want to take a chance on him, but it just hasn’t seemed to translate to the big leagues very well at all. Maybe he needs more of a chance; he’s never played a full season, and he’s only had about 700 PAs between 2008 and now. But I don’t see it working out.

I’ve been to quite a few Reading Phillies games, and I can attest to Rivero’s woeful defense. Freddy Galvis had to pretty much cover both SS and 3B. Which he did. Like a boss.
If I recall correctly, Rivero played some at 2B too. Next to Matt Rizzotti at 1B, this must have been an adventure.
I heart our rookies.
