Our Long National Nightmare Is Over

Former Phils reliever Chad Durbin has signed with the Cleveland Indians. While Durbin gave decent overall performance in his three years with the Phillies and is by all accounts a heckuva guy, there was no grounds for his earning the more than $2 million he drew down in 2010, and even at a lower salary this year he was an impediment to the progress of Scott Mathieson, Antonio Bastardo, Michael Schwimer, Justin DeFratus and other young (and minimum-salaried) arms on whom the Phils will count in years to come. This is truly a case of both good luck and good riddance, even before dredging up painful memories of his awful work in the 2009 World Series and 2010 NLCS.
