Your 2011 The Good Phight Fantasy Baseball Participants

What's your fantasy?

After careful deliberation, I have selected the participants for this year's TGP Fantasy Baseball League. The response to this year's call for applications was overwhelming and I quite enjoyed reading your haikus. You once again illustrated why The Good Phight is widely considered the most poetic Phillies blog on the innernets. One applicant put it best:

The Good Phight: stats, verse
Express themselves freely and
Hold hands in public.

If your name is on the list below, congrats! Soon you should be getting an invite to the league at the email address that you used to register your account here. If you don't, let me know.

If you made the cut but are having second thoughts or are thinking that you might not be able to stay involved for the whole season, please let me know ASAP so I can fill your spot with an alternate. Once everyone has joined up, we will discuss stat categories, draft times, league rules, etc.

To those who didn't make it: thanks for applying. I'd like to find a way to start up a second league, as there were more than enough applicants to fill one. Please indicate in the comments if you are still interested in playing and I will try to put something together.

Alright! Thanks so much for the acceptance. I’m pretty stoked to give fantasy a try; I’ll be diligent if often terrible at this.

I was a rookie last year and I can’t believe how much fun it was. Really. I thought I would suck, but it turns out I’m a fantasy geek TO THE MAX. I think I’m going to use all my free time from now until Draft Day to read up on sabermetrics and the nuances of Rotiserrie style play. I’m positively giddy. Yay guys!

Best of luck to this year’s managers. I might reapply next year, but life circumstances precluded any attempts by me to bring down the average skill level of the league this year.

Approaching the beginning of Year 3 on this blog…

Cheers to another solid year of arguing with FM, being wrong 85% of the time, staying in the air conditioning on summer nights in Northeast Philadelphia with a couple of beers, talking to people who have a greater appreciation for stats than i will ever have an appreciation for or ever have the ability to understand half of the stats

Good times, am ready for more

INVITATION EMAILS WENT OUT

If you are on the list but did not get one (n00bs), let me know, and I will check the email address. If the email address is still good, you may need to check your spam filters and let the stuff from CBS go through.

I also sent a general “to everyone” email to confirm the same for the non-n00bs.

I am not a witch.

by RememberthePhitans on Mar 1, 2011 9:06 AM EST reply actions

Apparently the email address associated with my username is from my yahoo account that I have not used in several years and can not reactivate. If I give you another email address can you send the invite there?

Thanks. I was going to ask if there was a more private way to do it. On the way.

Good luck y’all. I can never keep my attention long enough at the beginning and end of the season. The curse of working in education.

by WanderingMoses on Mar 1, 2011 11:36 AM EST reply actions

That would be with fantasy baseball season, not the actual season. The latter, I never have a problem keeping up with.

by WanderingMoses on Mar 1, 2011 11:37 AM EST up reply actions

Interim manager role for “extra credit project.” Given you teach theology, you could call it, “Virtual Church of Baseball: Operationalizing the Theology of Annie Savoy vis-a-vis the Cult of Base Ba’al.” EZ assessment: By end of school year:

Team Wandering – rank 1-3: A; 4-6: B; 7-9: C; 10-12: D; 13-18: F.

by Wet Luzinski on Mar 1, 2011 9:31 PM EST up reply actions

That’s absolutely brilliant. It’s ironic too, I use Bull Durham as an example of a non-theological religion when I am trying to define the concept of religion for the students in my comparative religions class.

Worshipping Ba’al got the Israelites in hot water with the Lord, but I think the Lord would make an exception for Base-Ba’al…

I hope my fellow leaguers are prepared for another full season of my unrelenting mediocrity.

Alright, I’m ready to go. Let’s hope I’m not as cursed with injuries as my football team was.

Yeah, my waiting on young players to break out strategy from last year didn’t really go as well as planned. Matt Weiters and Billy Butler, you are both dead to me

by Walcott on Mar 1, 2011 5:49 PM EST reply actions

I did that too, but I stashed Mike Stanton and Jeremy Hellickson on IR until they got called up. Not that it worked out. If we lose the ability to stash on IR, I’ll probably avoids Rooks like the plague.

by Cormican on Mar 1, 2011 9:28 PM EST up reply actions

Austin Jackson, suckas.

Too bad he and Cabrera were the two shining gems in the mass of suck that was my team…

Bob.

by The Dark on Mar 1, 2011 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I’d be inclined to do the same. I definitely reached on a bunch of my picks based on potential, but only a few panned out as I’d hoped (Brett Gardner, Gaby Sanchez).

by Walcott on Mar 2, 2011 11:27 AM EST up reply actions

This one time, I traded Billy Butler for Kevin Slowey.

Then I facepalmed.
