Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

If you could only keep ONE Phillie next year, who would it be?

Pretty simple, really.  If you could only keep one Phillie going into next year, and EVERYONE else was cut, who would you keep to build your team around?

This started as a conversation with my friend on why it is so important to keep Cole Hamels, and the potential complication the Hunter Pence deal has on team's budget for next year.  After I thought about it, my argument was simple: if I could only have one player, the player I viewed as the most important to the combination of the present and future, he would be it.  The perfect balance of talent, production, and age.  If I could only have 1 Phillie, it would be him.

So I figured I would ask all of you, who are much smarter and more knowledgeable than I am, who would You keep as your only Phillie??

Yeah, probably Hamels. Halladay second. Victorino third. Rollins fourth.

That’s not taking into account salary/service time/control. Dom Brown figures in there somewhere if you consider those constraints as well.

Think I have to take Hamels, too. Ability level, in the most important position in baseball at his age is the deciding factor for me, too.

Although I doubt I am smarter or more knowledgeable.

My 5 in order

Hamels, Halladay, Utley, Brown, Victorino.

Would have to go with Hamels or Brown for a position player. I don’t see much of a reason in keeping someone like Utley, as insanely good as he is, if you’re only keeping one person.

This.

Youth, Low Cost, All-Star Potential, etc. etc. etc.

Guys like Utley, Rollins, Halladay, Lee, etc., they’re great players, but Hamels and Dom Brown have all the things you want out of a potential “franchise player”

If I can only keep one guy, it’s got to be Brown, as he is low cost, and if I need to trade or sign a whole team, I’ll need all the financial flexibility I can get.

If money is no object, Utley or Halladay.

Lee. Simply because I honestly believe he could be a .250/.325/.400 guy as well as a good pitcher LOL.

Fillin 2 roster spots.
