I’m happy he’s getting a shot. Good for him.

How the hell am I/are we supposed to watch Rockies games?
Oh, well. At least I can keep up with the Ageless Wonder, thanks to the MLB AB app.
I do have a connection to the Fort Collins area. My uncle lives there, so we do have a Rockies fan in the family.

If I’m looking at the “oldest players” list on Baseball reference correctly, if Moyer appears in a game this year he’ll be the oldest guy to appear in a game since Hoyt Wilhelm in 1972.
All things considered, I'd rather be in Philadelphia
still a ways to go to catch up with Satchel Paige though!

Yeah, he’s part of the 2008 WFC, but I’ll always remember the job he did a year earlier, shutting down the Nationals on the last day of the season and helping the team finally, finally break that string of close but not quite seasons.
Thanks Jamie, and we’ll see you back at CBP in a few years for the Wall of Fame induction.

My girlfriend went on a date with him in high school. Her mom was his English teacher. Always funny seeing his name – closest MLB personal connection. Too bad he’s nothing special.
Fare thee well, JM. In my book, you were the Greatest.

Vance Worley could end up having a better season than all 9 of them.

GMs always talk about signing players for being “good clubhouse guys.” And it’s a nice thing to say, etc. But with it being such a big part of the Jamie Moyer aura, I always thought Amaro should put his money where his mouth is and, after Jamie’s playing days are over, give him a job with some ambiguous title to just travel with the team and be a “good clubhouse guy”, telling stories of the good old days and offering encouragement to the young whippersnappers.
I’d also like to see this happen with Pedro Martinez. Hire him, give him some title, and have him do all of the post-game press conferences with Charlie. For real, 20 minutes of Charlie and Pedro answering questions every night would be a ratings bonanza.
I would appreciate the second scenario.
But, seriously, as for the first, what are the chances of JM coming back as pitching coach once Rich Dubee hangs them up? Knowing what I do (read: little), he seems like he would be a natural. Always mentoring the younger folks (my favorite was when CSN cut to a shot of him in the dugout during a game explaining something to Doc. I mean, come on. Doc.), a really smart pitcher, has seen probably everything there is to see in baseball. He could end up being a perfect fit.

If Jamie wants to coach, the Mariners of Phillies organizations would be the obvious places. It seems like a lot of players like to take a few years after their playing career to stay at home with their family or whatever, but considering the Jamie is still trying to play, I’d guess he’d be ready to head right back on the road. And obviously, from everything that’s ever been written about the man, he has the personal attributes to be an awesome coach.
How long will Dubee be around? Who knows? But I’m trying to think of someone who went directly to coaching in the big leagues without coaching in the minor leagues first, and Mark McGwire is the only recent name that comes to mind. Not that I really ever paid attention to that, though.
So here’s the scenario: Jamie pitches for another year or two, and then he coaches somewhere in the Phillies system for a year or two. When Cholly retires, they bring in a new staff including Jamie as pitching coach and Jamie’s former teammate Ryne Sandberg as manager.
Heck, Jamie could be pitching coach for Reading (not far from home) and only travel regionally. That would seem to give him plenty of time at home and let him help groom young pitchers. Honestly, that’s where he would seem to be best, in my mind.
That sounds like a great fit. Do you have any idea if Jamie still owns a home in the area? I remember hearing that Jamie has a home in Seattle, because Cliff Lee’s family lived there when Cliff pitched for the Mariners. Although I think it was on the market last year, so I shouldn’t say that he definitely still has it.
I don’t. I figured having frown up in Souderton(?) he’d have family and friends in the area and amenable to settling down in the area. Of course, he could also settle in Florida and coach in the FSL, with even more minimal travel. Of course, he could coach with the Tacoma Rainiers, but the PCL is so damned spread out, you may as well just coach in the Majors at that point, if you can.
As someone who grew up in Souderton, I can tell you I never want to go back. But that’s just me.

Just the mere idea of Moyer’s wife being in business together with Pat Burrell’s wife gave me hope for a brighter tomorrow.
BOLD PREDICTION !!!!!
Moyer ends up facing the Phillies and lobs a no hitter (until after the 7th when he gets pulled after 120 pitches)
How's your wife and my kids?
The very heart of the issue indeed.
Fare thee well, JM. In my book, you were the Greatest.
