Considering the talent disparity in the division, it never really mattered.

Ouch.

I like to read that one whenever I’m feeling blue. Dewey Beats Truman!

I recommend reading Living on the Black by John Feinstein. He follows Mussina and Glavine throughout the entire 2007 season. Here’s a choice quote:

At 4:31 pm, the Mets’ season was over: Marlins 8, Mets 1. Four minutes later, while the players were still shuffling silently into the clubhouse, Phillies closer Brett Myers froze Wily Mo Pena with a rising fastball for strike three in South Philadelphia.

Phillies 6, Nationals 1.

Phillies 89-73, Mets 88-74.

It was over. The 2007 Mets, like the once-mighty gods of Götterdämmerung, the final opera of Wagner’s Ring Cycle, had been destroyed.

Yes, unfortunately he screws up what pitch Myers threw (that curve was so, so beautiful). But it’s still fabulous schadenfreude.

That is fantastic. It’s inexcusable that he doesn’t know that Myers’ outpitch is the curve, however.

Well for a little while, it did rise. Then it fell off the face of the earth. Into Coste’s mitt.

Some people don't think it be what it is, but it do.

Evidently today is also Jimmy’s wedding anniversary.
