Amazin' Avenue: New York Mets hire "turnaround consultants"; Sale, bankruptcy on horizon?
Eno Sarris of Amazin' Avenue scooped everyone last night, uncovering that the New York Mets have hired CRG Partners, the "turnaround consultants" who handled the Texas Rangers' bankruptcy sale a few years back.
Whether the Wilpons are really going to be forced to sell their controlling interest in the team, or if bankruptcy is or is not in play, the financial mess in Queens looks even messier.

I hate the Mets as much as anyone, but it is a shame to see Wilpon going through this. He seems to be a fairly nice man who made some bad decisions that go well beyond hiring Omar Minaya.
This is probably in their long-run best interests. The more pain they go through now, the sooner it’ll be over. Too bad for us, because I kind of like them just the way they are. But if the Wilpons get kicked out and they get a smart owner in there, they’ll have a leg up in the division for years to come.
Right on. Do not want. It’s in the Phillies best interests for the Mets to remain leveraged to the hilt, abandoing their feeder systems and running the team into the ground. Just ask the Yankees or Red Sox how the Rangers sale has worked out for them so far.

I realize it’s bad for the Mets and watching the Mets flounder is fun, but big picture wise it’s better for baseball for the Wilpons to be out of the picture. I’m just glad baseball takes a more aggressive role with their owners unlike the NFL who lets bad owners flounder and collect their TV revenue share.
All things considered, I'd rather be in Philadelphia
