Phillies Winter Meetings Update: Fowler, Hamilton, Young?

Stay connected for news and updates

Doug Pensinger

Reports from the first day of the Winter Meetings have the Phillies casting a wide net looking for offense in the wake of Angel Pagan's decision to return to San Francisco.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Phillies have apparently discussed a trade for Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler.

Fowler, 26, posted a .389 on-base percentage in 2012, but suffered from a severe home/away split.

In one of the smuggiest non-denial denials in the history of spoken human language, Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. suggested that the team had at least spoken to free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton and/or his representatives:

When asked if he had met with Hamilton, who is believed to be in the Nashville area this week, Amaro said, "No. But I wouldn’t tell you if I did." When asked if he had met with Hamilton's agent, Michael Moye, Amaro said, "No. But I wouldn’t tell you if I did."

Matt Gelb, Philadelphia Inquirer

T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports that the Phillies have had "some interest" in Rangers glorified utilityman Michael Young. If this comes to pass I may actually throw up.
