Insert joke here
The Yankees, in part, favored Ibanez over other free agents, like Johnny Damon, because they think he can play defense.

I’ve never seen him miss a ball hit right at him.

I feel like a small part of me just died inside.
Also, it is written in the stars that the compensation pick shall be a FHOF. #catstradamus

Thanks for the memories
and the 2.6 rWAR over three years for $36M.
It was nice that you acknowledged the fans in the April Internet Date Mets Single-fest Fiasco. That was one of the lone bright spots in an otherwise miserable game where the Phillies were Chris Young’d. You gave it up for those of us too stupid to leave in sort of a reverse curtain call. ’Cause we have GORN, too.
And we’ll always have the first half of 2009, before we all learned of your bipolar hot/cold streaks.
Seriously, it was fun to cheer for you Raul, and I sort of enjoyed having you on my fantasy team for two years running ,especially once I was enlightened about the streakiness. But all good things come to an end. I hope the Yankees play you in left many, many nights this year.

Just a thought. What was Pat’s rWAR over the last 3 years?

Two things about Raul.
1. He is a gentle soul who appreciates the game and those who love it.
2. He looks like Crusher Creel.
+1 to #1
Win lose or draw with Lidge and Ibanez, both were stand-up guys of the non-douche variety. Madson struck me the same way, too. I think the Phillies lose something with all three, though only Madson will result in significant lost talent at this stage.
In exchange, the Phillies get 1 Papelbon. /closes eyes, lies back, and thinks of England

We also got Thome back, and no-one can say he’s not a stand-up guy. I don’t think our douchometer is gonna change too much this year.
Do we have a douchometer yet?

best moment
had to be the homer against the mets in extras at citi field in 09…solely based on the spanish announcer’s call of it
thanks Raul
Gonna miss the crowd yelling your name when up to bat. Thanks for hitting that 3 run homer during the doubleheader I attended last year! it was the lone bright spot that day (other than seeing omg cliff lee take the mind that is).

I saw a bunch of people freaking out calling Raul a traitor on twitter today, I wonder if they knew that he wasn’t coming back to the Phillies or if they are just pissed that he went to the Yankees?

Also, I’ve found that I don’t despise the Yankees nearly as much as I used to. I still don’t like them at all, but it seems like my abject hatred for a particular baseball team has shipped up to Boston.

I hate both New York & Boston the most as sports cities but I’d have to give New York a edge in my hatred because in every sport there is a New York team in the same division as a Philly team
The Legend
I really hate most New York teams—I especially hate Eli. However, my Yankee hatred has decreased too. I’ve noticed that New York Yankees fans who are in their early 30’s or older and are from the New York area really know baseball. They often agree that Arod is an awful human being and know a reasonable bit about other teams’ line up. Boston fans I’ve met just seem obnoxious… they only care about the Red Sox and don’t know anything about other teams. I live in New Haven though and I think this might be because middle/working class people here are Yankees fans and the elite rich people who go to Yale tend to be Red Sox fans… oh well, my two cents.

Like it or not NYY moving into a tiny ball park is a great business move for one main reason. HRs put your players on sports center. Your players on SP = team exposure. Team exposure = more asses in seats & viewers at home.

Plus...
With a smaller ball park you have a few more rows of seats.
Also, had that deep fly off Carpenter gone out we’d be sitting here reminiscing fond memories of Raul similarly to the way we reminisc about Pat the Glove/Legs and his double in Game 5 against TB.
Double edged sword tho.
