The Alaska Goldpanners crushed the Mat-Su Miners 7-2 at Growden Park in Fairbanks, on the strength of two homeruns by... what? The Phillies? They still have a team?
Woah. They do. Uniforms and everything. How cute.
Cliff Lee allowed three runs in six innings, with four strikeouts, and the bullpen bullpenned in three more runs. Rockies' starter Henry Rowengarner struck out seven, allowing just one run.
I'm going to skip straight to silver linings: Jimmy Rollins went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple, Carlos Ruiz reinforced his MVPh status with two hits, and John Mayberry Jr. went 2 for 3 and looked good doing it. Oh, and Kyle Kendrick pitched an inning and a third with a strikeout, allowing zero homeruns to Jason Giambi.
Man, how about them Goldpanners. They can really bring it. Maybe Ruben should come up to visit. I'll buy him a $1.50 beer.
With the loss, the Phillies drop to
37-51 seasonover-shouldoftraded; "good" for 14 games under .500, the first time they've been that far out since the Pleistocene. Tomorrow night, they look to even the series, behind Vance Worley against Rockies' starter Jim Morris.
Fangraph of whatever:
