The Philadelphia Phillies will activate third baseman Placido Polanco from the disabled list today, reports Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer:

To make room on their roster for Polanco, the Phillies have optioned infielder Hector Luna to Triple-A. Polanco has been on the DL since late July due to lower back inflammation.

Prior to hitting the DL, Polanco had hit .255/.300/.328 with fifteen doubles and two home runs over 290 at-bats. The 36-year-old is in the midst of a career-worst season. His contract includes a $5.5 million mutual option for 2013, with a $1 million buyout, but most expect this to be his final year in Philadelphia.

Over sixty-two at-bats for the Phillies, Luna has hit .226/.273/.355 with two doubles and two home runs. The 32-year-old has also hit .291/.338/.453 with eleven doubles and six home runs for the club’s Triple-A affiliate.
