Happy Birthday Larry - Phillies 6, Giants 2

Ok, Dom, hit it that way. - Jason O. Watson

The Phillies celebrate Larry Andersen's birthday with a convincing 6-2 over the San Francisco Giants.

You are traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead: your next stop, the Twilight Zone!

What else could it be when the Phillies won, and in convincing fashion, today's game tomorrow? Or yesterday's game today?

The Phillies gave Larry Andersen a heck of a birthday present, delivering a solid 6-2 win over the San Francisco Hunterpence. Cliff Lee was outstanding, pitching eight innings (his shortest outing at AT&T Park!), recording six strikeouts against two walks, and, of his five hits, three came off the bat of Hunter Pence because the universe hates the Phillies. Seriously. Pence homered after strike three was called ball whatever. Scott for Scotts was rough, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out seven, but that's more an indictment of the Phillies than a solidly pitched outing.

The offense tonight came largely from Michael Young, who went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs. He also grounded into his tenth double play. Domonic Brown contributed as well, crushing a gigantic homerun into McCovey Cove; and Delmon Young hit a sac fly while eating a chilidog.

This is gonna be a quick recap guys, because you're all asleep and I've got work to do. Jimmy Rollins looked bad today. He went 0 for 4, with two strikeouts and an error, and he probably flipped his bat and was lazy, too.

All things considered, while a win is a win, tonight is triply refreshing because of recent events and because of the 2010 NLCS, and (fourthly?) because a good start to this west coast trip has to help.

With the win, the Phillies improve to 15-18, while San Francisco snaps their six-game winning streak and drops to 19-13. Tomorrow night, Kyle Kendrick takes the mound against Tim Lincecum.

Thanks for listening! Good night!
