Reading 9, New Britain 2
Austin Wright - 8 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR, 8 GB, 8 FB
Tyson Gillies - 3 for 4, 3 R, 2 2B
Maikel Franco - 3 for 5, 3 R, 3B, RBI, K
Anthony Hewitt - 1 for 5, 2 K
Zach Collier - 1 for 5, 2 RBI
Sebastian Valle - 1 for 5, 2 K
Nothing like stopping a skid in a big way. Of all starters, Wright comes through with a good performance as unlikely as it was for the struggling starter. The offense got contributions in a big way from Gillies and Franco. Franco of course is one of the hottest and most talked about prospects today. He extended his hitting streak in a big way (though he got his first strikeout in AA). He even outshone Twins super prospect Miguel Sano in the game, which was quite impressive.
Brevard County 6, Clearwater 4 (Game 1 of doubleheader)
Perci Garner - 5 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 3 GB, 3 FB
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 3, 2B, BB (outfield assist)
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 4, 3B, RBI, K
Tommy Joseph - 0 for 4, K
Chris Serritella - 1 for 4, HR, K
Harold Martinez - 0 for 2, R, BB, 2 K
The game went into extra innings of the first game of the double header. It didn't last long as Brevard quickly went ahead with a 2-run homer. That was all she wrote for the Threshers. Tommy Joesph doesn't seem to be getting his swing back on his road from recovery. Something you have to hope comes back over time.
Clearwater 2, Brevard County 1 (Game 2 of doubleheader)
Ethan Stewart - 5 IP, 2 H, BB, 4 K, 8 GB, 1 FB
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 3, K
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 3, K
Chris Serritella - 0 for 3, K
Harold Martinez - 1 for 2, R, BB
Colby Shreve - 1 IP, H
The Threshers seem to love free baseball and went into extras in the second game of the doubleheader. In walk-off fashion Carlos Alonso singled in Harold Martinez to win it. The top prospects didn't muster up much offense in this game, but Stewart had his best outing of the year by a long shot.
West Virginia 6, Lakewood 2
Severino Gonzalez - 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 6 K, 3 GB, 0 FB
Brian Pointer - 2 for 5, 2B, RBI, 2 K
Larry Greene - 0 for 4, K
Mitch Walding - 0 for 2, 2 BB, K
Zach Taylor - 2 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, BB
Stellar performance from Severino Gonzalez who made his first Lakewood start of the season. He had been in Clearwater as mostly a reliever. I suppose the Phillies have a different plan for him. Then came the 7th and 8th inning where reliever Chris Nichols gives up 5 runs to yield the lead. Lakewood is a very bad team, with mediocre pitching and hitting. It is going to be a long season.
Williamsport 5, Auburn 3 (Game 1 of doubleheader) 7 Innings
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 3, RBI, BB, K
Zach Green - 1 for 2, 3B, RBI, BB, SB (throwing error)
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 3, R, BB
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 2, R, BB
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 3, 2 K
The Crosscutters took the first game of the doubleheader. This was a bullpen game for Williamsport. Zach Green continues to impress in addition to Dylan Cozens new perceived patience at the plate.
Auburn 1, Williamsport 0 (Game 2 of doublehader) 2 Innings
Mitch Gueller - 2 IP, H, R, ER, BB, 3 K, 0 GB, 2 FB
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 2, 2B
Zach Green - 0 for 1, K
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 1
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 1
This game was a makeup for the suspended game from 6/26, but this wound up being rained out after 2 innings. At some point there will be a make up to the makeup game.
GCL Phillies 6, GCL Pirates 3
Feliberto Sanchez - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 K, 6 GB, 5 FB
JP Crawford - 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K, SB
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 3, R, BB, 2 K
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 3, R, RBI, BB, 2 K, SB
Admittedly, I don't know too much about the prospects in the GCL. I will however highlight the latest Phillies draft picks. 1st rounder JP Crawford with his first hit, stolen base and RBI of his professional career.
