Phillies Minor League Roundup, August 5, 2013

Reading and Williamsport had the night off, so this is a very brief look at yesterday's games.

Charlotte 8, Lehigh Valley 5

Greg Smith - 3.1 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 K, 3 GB, 1 FB
Phillippe Aumont - 1 IP, 0 R, 3 K
Mauricio Robles - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, K
Leandro Castro - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2B, BB, K, SB
Freddy Galvis - 0 for 4, R, K, SB
Steve Susdorf - 2 for 5, R, 2B, RBI
Josh Fields - 2 for 5, 2B, RBI, 2 K
Cody Overbeck - 1 for 4, HR, BB, 3 K
Cameron Rupp - 1 for 4, 2 K
Tyson Gillies - 1 for 4, 2B, K, SB, HBP

Wheels fell off for Smith finally with a subpar game. Combine that with even more mediocre pitching from Mike MacDougal, you aren't going to win very many games. The offense did their part, scoring 5 runs off 10 hits and 2 walks. Cody Overbeck continues to mash baseballs, all the while striking out once in every three at bats.

Clearwater, St. Lucie (cancelled due to rain)

Hagerstown 8, Lakewood 4

Miguel Nunez - 5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, K, 8 GB, 5 FB
Brian Pointer - 0 for 3, R, 2 BB
Domonic Brown - 3 for 5, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB, K
Willie Carmona - 0 for 3, RBI, BB, K, picked off
Art Charles - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, K
Mitch Walding - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K (throwing error)
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 3, 2B

Not even a rehabing Dom Brown could elevate the Blueclaws to a win Monday night. Outside of Brown, Lakewood couldn't only muster up 3 hits. Nunez was also equal parts awful and hasn't been an effective starter this season.

GCL Phillies 9, GCL Braves 6

Elniery Garcia - 4 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 4 GB, 1 FB (pickoff error)
Herlis Rodriguez - 1 for 4, R, K (outfield assist)
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4, HR, K
JP Crawford - 1 for 3, R, 2B, BB, K (throwing error)
Nick Ferdinand - 0 for 3, R, BB, 2 K
Wilmer Oberto - 1 for 4, HR, 4 RBI, 2 K (fielding error)
Robinson Torres - 1 for 3, 2 R, HR, BB, K, SB
Jose Pujols - 1 for 4, HR, K

At least it's comforting knowing that at least one Phillies team can beat the Braves. The GCL Phils were certainly powered by the long ball. Jose Pujols might finally be realizing his power potential. He now has 5 on the season and is hitting .317 in his last ten games. This is a far cry from his below the mendoza line hitting from a couple weeks ago. Oberto continues to punish the GCL and smacks a grand slam over the right field fence. The GCL Phillies might be the most exciting Phillies affiliate to follow right now.
