So, well, many of you here might know me under various screen names (jemagee is the most notorious I do believe) and I don't say a lot here any more because, well, I've been involved in numerous other things in a variety of other arenas and finances have made it so I can't get the MLB Extra Innings package, but I still greatly enjoy reading what goes on here, and I've come to know there are a lot of intelligent and insightful people here. If this post is 'out of bounds' I will respect the blog lords deletion of the post, but I have to at least give it a shot to help my brother in law out.
My brother in law is a teacher in the Philadelphia Public Schools and this year the school doesn't have the budget to give him the money to buy the 'consumable' books he needs for his students. My sister who is pretty darn smart about things (and has a lot of friends, me not so much) started a 'crowd funding' initiative to raise the funds ($1500) so that the books can be purchased for the students. As you'll see, if you follow the link, over 1/3 of the money has been raised already, so it seems my sister has a lot of good and giving friends. The coincidence is that I had recently been thinking about crowd sourcing / crowd funding doing some social good in this country and was trying to figure how to go about getting it started anyway, but seems like it's out there if you know where to look.
I know there's a wide variety of people who post here (including teachers) who might be able to help a little or might know people who can help. If you can help or know someone who might, any little bit would be greatly appreciated.
(I realize there's a debate to be had regarding public education, and taxes, and new technologies for teaching, etc....but I wasn't trying to get into that here, I'm just trying to spread the word anyway I can)
If you or any one you know can help even a little, please follow this link
Again, I apologize for the intrusion, but hey, if i could just send this to the phillies themselves I would :)
