Dayung. Guess I can kiss that next extension bye bye... - Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Phillies are hiring nerds. Really. and they use the words Analytic and Department in the same sentence! Stop wondering if they're embracing and start realizing YOU might be able to be a part of this

  • Kudos to Liz for finding this.

Per BASEBALL PROSPECTUS The Phillies are hiring interns to work in something called an "Analytics Department"

Here's what they say:

The Phillies are looking for interns. If you meet the criteria below, email Scott Freedman at SFreedman@Phillies.com and tell him Baseball Prospectus sent you!

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field of study
  • Specialized training, certifications or published research
  • Practical work experience in baseball industry

Now I don't actually HAVE an advanced degree in a quantitative field of study, but if I did, I would say that this is the single biggest most importantest thing to happen to this organization in half a century.

It's bigger than signing Masahiro Tanaka.

It's bigger than winning the world series in the grand scheme of things.

But what do I know? I'm just a Ruben apologist who refuses to acknowledge that he doesn't know his butt from a hole in the wall and is too stubborn to change.

;^)

The Phillies have an analytics department.

:^)

Say that again one more time.

Now smack yourself in the face, pinch your cheek and realize your still awake.

Now understand that you can be a part of this.

YOU CAN BE A PART OF THIS.

Send your resume. Give it a shot.

I know some of you qualify for this job. Don't be afraid. Be bold.  Walk the walk.

And as for everyone else, embrace and enjoy this.

As Phrozen so eloquently put it:

And some people said he was just window dressing. Start small and build is how large organizations work and that's what they're doing.

F%$#*@G AWESOME!

Indeed.

Catz out.
