With all of the Jimmy Rollins trade rumours floating about, we as fans are praying that good ol' 2007 NL MVP J-Roll is here to stay until his imminent retirement is what could possibly be the next two or three seasons. He's given this ball club so much over the years including one World Series ring and darn near another one the year after. While injury has undoubtedly decreased his production behind the plate, his defense has remained near impeccable and made a name for himself as one of the best SS in the National League. The thing is, we don't need defense right now nearly as much as we need offensive production and so far, Rollins isn't the answer. But ask yourself, is he worth trading for a few young pitching prospects? Honestly, I'd be distraught seeing him suit up in another uniform mostly because I've grown up watching him, but putting all feelings and emotional attachments aside, I think he's worth a SOLID minor league pitcher and cash. Not to mention how much space it would free up on the cap. I'm talking signing someone like Freddy Garcia or Joel Hanrahan to a one-year deal.
Needless to say, he's a great player and has brought more than enough success to this organization, but maybe it is time to part ways. Let me know what you think!
