Instead, he's going to replace one of them.
Kenny Giles promoted from AAA as Mike Adams goes on DL w shoulder inflammation. #Phillies— Jim Salisbury (@JSalisburyCSN) June 8, 2014
The Adams injury is a crusher for the Phils. He had been outstanding since coming back from off-season shoulder trouble, with a 2.12 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 17 innings. Adams is in the second year of a 2-year, $12 million deal.
The Phillies hope Giles can put up the same kind of numbers with the big club that he did in Reading and Lehigh. He posted a 1.20 ERA in 15 innings with the Fightins, with seven saves and 29/5 K/BB ratio. With the Piggies, he was slightly less effective, with a 2.63 ERA in 13.2 innings, five saves and 9/8 K/BB ratio.
Still, you'll take those numbers up in The Show.
Historically, Giles' control has been the issue, and while he maintained very good control in Reading, he was not quite as tight with it in Lehigh. So please...
Message to @phillies. Things not to do: freak out when Ken Giles has control issues— The Good Phight (@TheGoodPhight) June 7, 2014
He is no savior. He's just a guy who throws really hard with a bright future ahead of him.
