David Manning-USA TODAY Sports

Today's Probables: LHV: Greg Smith, REA: Hoby Milner, CLR: Mark Leiter, LWD: TBD WIL: Matt Imhof

Rochester 12, Lehigh Valley 6 (July 4, 2014)

Barry Enright - 4.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 4 GB, 4 FB, WP
Hector Neris - 1.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 6 ER, BB, K
Phillippe Aumont - 1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 WP
Jeremy Horst - 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER
Grady Sizemore - 3 for 5, R, K
Tyler Henson 2 for 4, R, BB
Leandro Castro - 2 for 5, R, RBI
Maikel Franco - 2 for 5, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, K
Cam Perkins - 0 for 4, K
Sebastian Valle - 1 for 4, K (passed ball)

Maikel Franco finally making these secondary adjustments? This looks like a return to May form. He is 6 for 9 in his last 2 games. Hector Neris has given up 10 earned runs in his last two appearances (3 IP).

Lehigh Valley 9, Rochester 8 (July 5, 2014, 16 innings)

Sean O'Sullivan - 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
Cesar Jimenez - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, K
Tyler Knigge - 1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, K
Luis Garcia - 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB
Ethan Martin - 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K
Jeremy Horst - 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 K, HR
Hector Neris - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Leandro Castro - 3 for 8, 2 R, RBI, K
Russ Canzler - 4 for 7, 3 R, 2B, 2 HR, BB
Maikel Franco - 3 for 8, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, K
Cam Perkins - 1 for 7, R, 2B
Sebastian Valle - 0 for 7, 2 K

Rochester commits 6 errors in the game and also outhit Lehigh 17-16. The Iron Pigs bullpen hasn't been too great lately. You know who has been doing good? That Maikel Franco guy. He blasts HR number 6 and is 9 for 17 in his last 3 games.

Indianapolis 4, Lehigh Valley 0 (July 6, 2014)

Brad Lincoln - 7 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, HR, 10 GB, 3 FB
Phillippe Aumont - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Leandro Castro - 0 for 4, K
Darin Ruf - 0 for 3, BB
Maikel Franco - 0 for 4, K
Cam Perkins - 1 for 3

Brad Lincoln showing some promise in AAA in the month of June. In 7 starts (41 IP), he has only given up 29 hits, 13 ER and struck out 32. However, he has also allowed 17 walks. Over that same time he is holding opponents to a .193 BA and a .219 BABIP. Take all that info however you want to. Maikel Franco's "hot streak" comes to an unceremonious end. Though hopefully this is just a blip on the radar and he will smash 3 home runs today.

Richmond 1, Reading 0 (July 4, 2014, Game 1 of doubleheader)

Adam Loewen - 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 11 GB, 2 FB
Carlos Alonso - 0 for 3, K (fielding error)
Kelly Durgan - 0 for 3, 2 K
Peter Lavin - 1 for 3
KC Serna - 0 for 3 (throwing error)
Raywilly Gomez - 1 for 3
Zach Collier - 0 for 2

Loewen pitches a phenomenal game, but is the hard luck loser. Reading actually outhits Richmond in this one, 3-2. Alonso commits his 16th error of the season.

Richmond 2, Reading 0 (July 4, 2014, Game 2 of doubleheader, makeup of 4/15)

Colton Murray - 2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 3 K, HR
Kyle Simon - 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Carlos Alonso - 0 for 3, K
Peter Lavin - 0 for 3, K
Kelly Dugan - 2 for 3, 2B
Brock Stassi - 2 for 3
KC Serna - 0 for 3
Zach Collier - 0 for 2, BB

Bullpen game for the Fightin's in which ace righty reliever Murray gets the call to start. It doesn't goes particularly well as he takes the loss. Reading is shutout in the doubleheader as the offense combines for only 7 hits on the day.

Richmond 5, Reading 4 (July 5, 2014)

Chris Bootcheck - 5 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, BB, 3 K, 5 GB, 4 FB
Mike Nesseth - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 4 K
KC Serna - 1 for 4, R
Peter Lavin - 1 for 4 (outfield assist, 2B)
Kelly Dugan - 2 for 4, R, 2 RBI, K
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 4, K
Brock Stassi - 1 for 4, RBI
Raywilly Gomez - 1 for 4, RBI

I feel like MAG's season is an episode out of the Twilight Zone, or at least is shaping up to be one. The pitcher we saw at the beginning of the season had no velocity and couldn't find the strikezone. He was a pitcher who looked like he hadn't thrown a pitch in years. This turnaround is quite unexpected. I shall remain cautiously optimistic.

Reading 6, Richmond 2 (July 6, 2014)

Severino Gonzalez - 8 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 7 K, HR, 6 GB, 5 FB
Nefi Ogando - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Peter Lavin - 3 for 5, 2 R, K, CS, picked off
Carlos Alonso - 1 for 4, R
KC Serna - 3 for 4, RBI, SB
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 3, 2 RBI
Brock Stassi - 1 for 4, R, RBI, K
Raywilly Gomez - 0 for 4, R, K
Zach Collier - 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K

In classic 2014 Severino fashion, he follows up a dud with a fantastic outing. Nefi Ogando has his first clean outing since June 8 (9 appearances). Peter Lavin and KC Serna probably shouldn't have been stuck in Clearwater all year with the way they have been playing. Reading salvages the 4 game series with a win. They are 35-50 on the season.

Dunedin 5, Clearwater 1 (July 4, 2014)

Jordan Guth - 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 GB, 4 FB
Roman Quinn - 0 for 3, BB, K
JP Crawford - 1 for 3, BB, CS
Harold Martinez - 1 for 4, R, K
Brian Pointer - 0 for 2, BB, HBP
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 3, BB (catching interference error)

Jordan Guth makes his first start of the season and first since 2013 in Lakewood. I'm assuming he took Ethan Stewart's spot in the rotation. JP Crawford gets another hit and walk, but is caught stealing for the 2nd time in Clearwater. He is 0 for 2 in stolen base attempts so far. He was 14 for 21 in Lakewood.

Clearwater, Brevard County (July 5, 2014, postponed due to rain)

Clearwater 2, Brevard County (July 6, 2014, Game 1 of doubleheader, suspended after 2 innings due to rain)

Cliff Lee - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Roman Quinn - 0 for 1, R, K, HBP
JP Crawford - 1 for 2, HR, 2 RBI
Art Charles - 1 for 1, 2B

This game was suspended after 2.2 innings, but not before Cliff Lee was able to get 2 innings of a rehab start and JP Crawford mashing his 3rd homer for the Threshers. This game will be completed today.

Clearwater, Breveard County (July 6, 2014, Game 2 of doubleheader, makeup of 7/6, postponed due to rain)

Delmarva 17, Lakewood 5 (July 4, 2014)

Julio Reyes - 3.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, K, HR, 2 GB, 4 FB
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Andrew Pullin - 2 for 3, 2 R, RBI, BB
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, K
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 3, RBI, BB, K (outfield assist, home)
Zach Green - 1 for 4
Mitch Walding - 0 for 3, RBI, 2 K
Samuel Hiciano - 1 for 4, K
Larry Greene - 1 for 3, BB
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 4, R, K (fielding error)

Blue Claw pitchers get roughed up something fierce, giving up 17 runs on 17 hits and 7 walks. Andrew Knapp remains red hot, with his 4th homer with Lakewood.

Delmarva 6, Lakewood 3 (July 5, 2014)

Jon Prosinski - 5.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 8 GB, 3 FB
Scott Harris - 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 2 K
Aaron Baker - 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 5, 2 2B, RBI, K
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 2, 3 BB, K
Willians Astudillo - 1 for 4, HBP
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, K, 2 SB
Zach Green - 1 for 4, K, SB
Larry Greene - 0 for 3, RBI, 2 K
Mitch Walding - 2 for 4, R, 2 2B, K (throwing error)

Jon Prosinski continues to struggle at the A level. I can imagine the clock is ticking in his head. The offense does fairly well in the game, despite having more baserunners than Shorebirds. Cozens picks up stolen bases 14 and 15. Zach Green picks up his 6th as well. Larry Greene and Mitch Walding are hitting a combined .396 on the season!

Lakewood 6, Delmarva 2 (July 6, 2014)

Yacksel Rios - 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 5 K, 8 GB, 2 FB
Matt Hockenberry - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 5, R, K, SB
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4, R, K, SB
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 4, R, K
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K (outfield assist, 2B)
Zach Green - 3 for 4, 2B, 3 RBI
Larry Greene - 1 for 4
Mitch Walding - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI

Whatever has gotten into Rios, I like it. He has gone 15 innings in his last two starts combined and has only given up 6 hits, 3 earned runs, 3 walks, while striking out 9. Carlos Tocci has quietly accumulated a nice 8 game hitting streak (12 for 39). Mitch Walding hits his first HR since May 24, giving him two for the season.

Williamsport 2, Auburn 0 (July 4, 2014, Game 1 of doubleheader, 7 innings)

Mitch Gueller - 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 5 K, 4 GB, 2 FB
Derek Campbell - 1 for 3, 2B, 2 K
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 2, R, BB
Aaron Brown - 1 for 3, R
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 3, K
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 3, RBI
Robinson Torres - 1 for 2, K
Sean McHugh - 0 for 2, K
Chase Harris - 0 for 2

Mitch Gueller pitches the best game of his career on the day of our nation's birth. The 54th overall pick of the Phillies in the 2012 draft has been slow to come along. He was always going to be a bit of a project, but him coming around would be huge for a pitching starved organization.

Auburn 6, Williamsport 4 (July 4, 2014, Game 2 of doubleheader, makeup of 6/25 ppd, 8 innings)

Chris Oliver - 3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 6 GB, 1 FB, WP
Keivi Rojas - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Feliberto Sanchez - 4 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, K, HR, 2 GB, 4 FB
Derek Campbell - 1 for 3, R, BB, K
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 3, HR, 2 RBI, K
Aaron Brown - 0 for 2, SB, 2 HBP
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 4, K
Drew Stankiewicz - 2 for 4
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 4, 2 K
Emmaneul Marrero - 2 for 3, 2B, SB

Chris Oliver has struggled a bit in his professional debut between GCL and NY/Penn League, but leaves with the no-decision. Jiandido Tromp hits his 5th HR and Derek Campbell finding a nice little home at the top of the lineup.

Auburn 2, Williamsport 1 (July 5, 2014)

Alejandro Arteaga - 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 K, 8 GB, 6 FB
Bryan Sova - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R
Calvin Rayburn - 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, K
Chase Harris - 1 for 4, RBI, BB (outfield assist, home)
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 3, BB, SB
Aaron Brown - 2 for 4
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 4, K
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 3, BB, K (throwing error)
Drew Stankiewicz - 0 for 3
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 3, R, BB, K
Emmanuel Marrero - 3 for 4, 2B

Arteaga finally finds his footing and pitches his best game of the year (through 14 starts). He left with the no decision and eventually Rayburn would give up the eventual winning run. Tromp steals his 7th stolen base.

Williamsport 4, Auburn 1 (July 6, 2014)

Preston Packrall - 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, 3 K, 8 GB, 1 FB
Deivi Francisco - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Frank Rivas - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, K
Aaron Brown - 2 for 4, R, K, CS
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI, BB, K, CS
Derek Campbell - 3 for 3, R, 2 2B, HR
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 3, K
Deivi Grullon - 0 for 3
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 2, BB, SB (fielding error)

Preston Packrall delivers and the offense backs him up behind Tromp and Campbell. Campbell has his first professional HR of his career and Tromp hits number 6 on the season. As much as I was disappointed that Aaron Brown wouldn't be pitching after being drafted, he has batting .303/.347/.364 to begin the season playing CF. He is also 5 for 7 in stealing attempts and has a cannon of an arm. The Phillies organization suddenly got really interesting after this draft.

GCL Phillies 11, GCL Yankees2 10 (July 4, 2014)

Franklyn Kilome - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, K, 5 GB, 2 FB
Venn Biter - 2 for 4, R, 2 RBI, K, HBP
Tim Zier - 1 for 4, R, BB
Darin Ruf - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, HBP
Wil Nieves - 0 for 3, R, RBI, HBP
Damek Tomscha - 2 for 4, 3 R, 2B, BB
Trey Williams - 0 for 4, 2 K, HBP
Jose Pujols - 1 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB
Jesus Posso - 2 for 3, R, 3 RBI (passed ball)
Williams Cucias - 1 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, BB

The bullpen was awful after Kilome exited the game. The offense however was relentless, scoring 4 and 5 runs in the 1st and 3rd inning, respectively to a 9-0 lead. Damek Tomscha destroying all in his path.

GCL Yankees2 2, GCL Phillies 1 (July 5, 2014)

Jeff Manship - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Denton Keys - 4 IP, 4 H, 0 R. 3 K, 4 GB, 3 FB
Francibel Alejo - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K
Venn Biter - 0 for 4, RBI, BB, SB
Olvy Marte - 0 for 2, 2 BB, SB, CS, picked off
Darin Ruf - 0 for 4, 2 K
Wil Nieves - 1 for 3, 2B, BB
Damek Tomscha - 0 for 1, 2 BB, HBP
Trey Williams - 1 for 4
Jose Pujols - 0 for 3, R, BB, 2 K
Luis Encarnacion - 0 for 3, HBP
William Cucias - 2 for 3

Denton Keys with a solid start, despite not beginning the game. Damek Tomscha's line on the season is .395/.500/.628 through 43 at bats. He has walked 6 times and only struck out 4 times. I wonder if there has been any thought to releasing Harold Martinez, promoting Zach Green to Clearwater and double jumping Tomscha to Lakewood.
