World Series Game Six Discussion Thread, Phillies at Yankees, November 4, 2009

Hey, there's a baseball game tonight!

Pedro Martinez, World Series, Yankee Stadium, Andy Pettitte, Game Six, etc. etc.

Pedro, if this is your last game for the Phillies... it's been a privilege watching you.

Discuss the game below.

World Series Game Five Discussion Thread, Yankees at Phillies, November 2, 2009

One thing is for certain: This is the last baseball game in Philadelphia this year.

The Phillies, down 3 games to 1, look to stay alive in the 2009 World Series behind their ace Cliff Lee, who has been virtually unhittable the entire postseason.  He'll be opposed by A.J. Burnett, who was virtually unhittable in Game Two.

Keep that glimmer of hope alive.

World Series Game Four Discussion Thread, Yankees at Phillies, November 1, 2009

The Phillies' backs aren't to the wall, but it's kinda closeish.  After last night's upsetting, soggy loss, the Phillies look to even things up against the Yankees tonight behind Joe Blanton.  They'll attempt to do so against CC Sabathia, against whom the Phillies have secured two victories in the last two postseasons.

More improbable things have happened.  Like Joe Blanton hitting a home run.

A win tonight sends this back to New York.  Huzzah!

Discuss the game below.

World Series Game Three Discussion Thread, Yankees at Phillies, October 31, 2009

The World Series returns to Philadelphia after a one year absence.  Cole Hamels, the hero of the 2008 postseason, goes for the Phillies against the Yankees' Andy Pettitte, the all-time leader in postseason victories.  Despite a 3.83 postseason ERA which is just a touch below his regular season 3.91 mark.  And the fact that he had the good fortune of playing on some tremendous teams during the three-tiered playoff era.  Good pitcher in the regular season, good pitcher in the postseason.  Nothing magical.  But I digress...

Big implications here.  Obviously.  It's the World Series.

Discuss the game below.

World Series Game Two Discussion Thread, Phillies at Yankees, October 29, 2009

The Phillies look to take an "intimidating" (maybe not quite "commanding") lead in the World Series tonight behind Pedro Martinez, who happens to know a thing or two about pitching against the Yankees.  He'll be opposed by A.J. "Roulette" Burnett, whose performance tonight might just make or break the Yankees' season.

Also, is it just me or does A.J. Burnett look kind of like a really skinny Joe Don Baker in that picture below?

One more, then they go home to Philadelphia.

Discuss the game below.

World Series Game One Discussion Thread, Phillies at Yankees, October 28, 2009

Ho-hum, another World Series.

Just kidding, how incredibly GEEKED OUT are you guys for this?!  The championship defense begins now!

In a matchup of the last two American League Cy Young Award winners, the Phillies' Cliff Lee and CC Sabathia look to continue their red-hot postseason streaks.

LET'S DO THIS PHILADELPHIA!

NLCS Game Five Discussion Thread, October 21, 2009

Here we are again, sitting one game away from a second consecutive World Series berth.

On the hill? 2008 postseason legend Cole Hamels.  Opposed by?  Former Phillie Vicente Padilla.

Drama, intrigue, etc.

Please win.  Don't burn stuff.

Discuss the game below.

NLCS Game Four Discussion Thread: Dodgers at Phillies, October 19, 2009

Through the magic of the Internet, barring catastrophe, this Game Thread will go live as I'm already inside Citizens Bank Park for Game Four of the NLCS.

The Phillies were up 2-1 at some point in each of their last four playoff series, all of which they won.  Good omen?  Statistical probability?  Whatever, it beats the alternative.

Joe Blanton goes for the Phillies against former Phillie Randy Wolf.

Discuss the game below.

NLCS Game Three Discussion: Dodgers at Phillies, October 18, 2009

The NLCS comes back to Philadelphia on a cold, damp night.  Cliff Lee will look to extend his run of postseason dominance tonight against Dodgers' righty Hiroki Kuroda, who despite a long layoff due to injury, will look to continue his run of dominance of the Phillies (0.95 ERA in three career starts, six (!) hits in 19 IP, plus the Dodgers' sole NLCS victory last season).

Discuss the game below.

NLCS Game Two Discussion Thread: Phillies at Dodgers, October 16, 2009

Oh, intrigue!

The Dodgers look to avoid falling into an 0-2 hole at home, and the Phillies look to take a commanding 2-0 lead back to brutal South Philadelphia.  Stakes is high.

Pedro Martinez makes his first postseason appearance for the Phillies against former Phil and alleged sociopath and Gene Simmons lookalike Vicente Padilla.  I'll take my chances.

Discuss the game below.  "Fisting" optional.
