Farmers only: Stat-stuffing the OBP
Triple-A: Another big day for Ryan Hanigan as he singled in the winning run for the Bats, 2-1. Ramon Ramirez struck out 11 in 7 innings, walking just 2 and allowing 4 hits, including a solo homer.
Double-A: Sean Henry's solo homer was one of 5 hits for the Lookouts, but they won 2-0. Ben Jukich, back with Chattanooga after a not-so-terrific stint in Louisville, struck out 7 in 7 innings.
High A: Todd Frazier was 2 for 3 with a homer in Sarasota's 7-6 loss. Zach Stewart breezed through the 8th but ran into trouble in the 9th, walking the bases loaded before allowing the walk-off single for the loss.
Low A: Neftali Soto homered and Zach Cozart doubled in Dayton's 11-4 loss. Brandon Waring and Devin Mesoraco combined to go 0 for 7.
Rookies: Michael Konstanty homered and Tony Brown was 2 for 3 in Billings' 4-2 win. ... The G-Reds got outhit 18-3 and lost big. ... The Dominican Reds managed 16 walks from the Reds/D-Backs and won 9-0 with only 4 hits. Don't snicker... Ramon Almonte gave up 9 walks, and he's in the Reds' system. Fernando Gonzalez walked 5 in two-thirds of an inning, and he's in the Reds' system. Marcos Molina gave up the other 2 walks, and he's in the Reds' system. The Reds walked themselves 16 times. Juan Duran was 0 for 3 with 2 walks and is now batting .198.

Farmers only: The Backyardigan
Triple-A: Drew T. Anderson homered and Ryan Hanigan was 5 for 5 in Louisville's 8-4 win. Adam Rosales, Chris Dickerson and Danny Richar each had 2 hits, and Carlos Fisher and Daniel Ray Herrera combined for 5 strikeouts. Hanigan's batting average is up to .323 with a respectable .808 OPS. The Bats, by the way, have won 8 of 9, are 8 games ahead of Toledo for first place in the International League West and are 23 games over .500 (71-48).
Double-A: The Lookouts blew a 7-2 lead in the 2nd inning and lost 18-16. Lots of hits to go around: Danny Dorn had 2 homers, Sean Henry, Chris Valaika and Justin Turner had 2 hits each and Drew Stubbs was 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Despite all the scoring, Ramon Geronimo extended his earned-run-less streak.
High A: Juan Francisco homered in Sarasota's 6-5 loss. Logan Parker was 2 for 4. Francisco is tied for second in the Reds' system with Brandon Waring and Todd Frazier at 17. Dorn has 18 total homers.
Low A: Neftali Soto was 2 for 5 in Dayton's 2-1 loss. Jeff Jeffords, fresh off his unsuccessful double-promotion, suffered the loss in this one, too.
Rookies: Juan Duran was 0 for 3 in the D-Reds' loss.

Farmers only: Harang is close
Triple-A: Aaron Harang struck out 6 in 6 innings and Adam Rosales, Drew T. Anderson and Chris Dickerson had 3 hits each in Louisville's 11-0 win. It was Harang's first start since July 8, what with his strained right forearm. He seems ready to go for the Reds, but he might get one more start with the Bats. Paul Janish was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs.
Double-A: Jeff Jeffords had a rough go of things in his first game for the Lookouts, allowing 3 runs in 0 innings (though he struck out a guy on a wild pitch) in a 5-1 loss. Jeffords gave up a single and a double and hit a batter before leaving the bases loaded for Ramon Geronimo, who nearly got out of it unscathed before allowing a 2-out single to score 2 inherited runners. So it wasn't all Jeffords' fault, but he didn't exactly pitch well. I don't really expect him to stay; he skipped High A and was probably making a spot appearance. He needs to get an out to lower his ERA from infinity.
High A: Logan Parker was 3 for 3 with 2 walks as Sarasota lost 3-2. Parker is lighting up the Florida State League (.323/.400/.516/.916 in 16 games). Scott Carroll went 6 scoreless innings for the no-decision.
Rookies: Michael Konstanty had 2 home runs and Tony Brown smacked his 10th in Billings' 10-9 win. Brown, Cody Puckett, David Sappelt and Tyler Stovall all had 2 hits. ... Evan Hildenbrandt struck out 6 in 6 shutout innings, Humberto Sosa homered and Alexis Oliveras was 3 for 4 in the Gulf Coast Reds' 4-1 win. Hildenbrandt, who was drafted in the 6th round, is said by Baseball America to have the best secondary pitch from last year's draft (curveball). He's 19 and starting to look like a badass, having struck out at least 6 in his past 4 starts and 5 of his past 6. ... Juan Duran drew 2 walks in the D-Reds' 2-0 loss.

Farmers only: Get to know Yonder
Triple-A: Chris Dickerson went 3 for 5 with a run and the go-ahead RBI as Louisville won 2-1. Adam Pettyjohn (12-4) won his 5th straight start, and Josh Roenicke threw a perfect inning for his 3rd save.
Double-A: Justin Turner was 3 for 4 in Chattanooga's 3-2 win. Sam Lecure allowed just 1 run in 7 innings, striking out 3, and Sean Watson struck out 2 for the save.
High A: Todd Frazier doubled and Juan Francisco tripled in a run in Sarasota's 3-0 win.
Low A: Justin Reed singled in Keltavious Jones in the 5th for Dayton's 1-0 win. Kyle Lotzkar struck out 2 before leaving in the 3rd with an undisclosed arm injury. Juan Rafael struck out 7 in relief for the win.
Rookies: Tyler Stovall was 2 for 4 with an RBI, but Billings lost 4-3. ... The G-Reds managed just 4 hits but won 6-2. Three of those hits came from Humberto Sosa, who had 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. In a makeup game beforehand, Matt Maloney struck out 9 in rehab relief, and the Reds won 2-0.
Saturday night: Chris Valaika had 3 hits and 5 RBIs, Danny Dorn had 2 doubles and Drew Stubbs had 3 hits in Chattanooga's 13-2 win. The Lookouts got 20 hits. ... Todd Frazier launched a walk-off homer in the 15th. ... Zach Cozart had 3 hits. ... Juan Duran hit his first homer.
Finally, Yonder Alonso -- the Reds' 1st-round pick who scouting director Chris Buckley thinks we'll sign by the August 15th deadline -- spoke with teenage brothers associated with the Miami Herald in a story published yesterday. Here are a few of his statements:
Q: What really ticks you off?
A: People that are not neat. I don't like it at all. I like to be very neat.Q: Does your mind ever wander during a game or during a break?
A: Yes, a lot. Too much. I just start thinking about a lot of things but don't tell my coach. He would probably get mad, but I definitely start wandering off. I don't know why. I just do it.Q: What is the coolest prank you have ever done?
A: My roommate was sleeping and I wanted to mess around with his hair. So I shaved half of his hair and made a U on the other half.Favorites

Farmers only: Dayton had a bad day
Triple-A: Newly acquired infielder Danny Richar (pronounced REE-char) went 0 for 5, but Paul Janish delivered the go-ahead double as the Bats beat Charlotte -- Richar's old team -- 7-5. Kevin Barker homered, Alvin Colina was 3 for 3 and Josh Roenicke struck out 2 in 1.2 perfect innings.
Double-A: The Lookouts' scoring troubles continued as they lost 2-0. Danny Dorn and Chris Valaika were both 0 for 4, and both have cooled off considerably of late.
High A: Logan Parker was 2 for 4 in Sarasota's 6-4 loss to Rick Porcello and Lakeland. Todd Frazier was 1 for 4 with an RBI.
Low A: Brandon Waring was 2 for 4, but Dayton fell just short, losing 18-0. Most of that damage went to Daniel Guerrero (9 runs) and Derrick Conatser (8 runs in 2/3 of an inning). More importantly, the suspensions from the big brawl were handed down. Henry Arias, Jeremy Horst, Jeff Jeffords, Luis Montano, Devin Mesoraco, Kevyn Feiner, Denis Phipps, Justin Reed and manager Donnie Scott were all suspended 3 games.
Rookies: Kyle Day and David Sappelt had 2 hits each in Billings' 6-2 win. Day, a 22-year-old catcher, has been clear-hot in his 18 games since being drafted in the 12th round out of Michigan State. He's too advanced for the Pioneer League. ... Juan Duran was 0 for 4 in his return, a 5-3 win for the D-Reds.

Farmers only and the curse of Tomo Ohka
Triple-A: Drew T. Anderson was 4 for 5 and Shaun Cumberland was 3 for 4 in the Bats' 6-3 loss. Bobby Livingston gave up 9 hits in 6 innings and had 0 strikeouts, and Tomo Ohka struck out 9 while allowing 10 hits for Charlotte.
Double-A: Chattanooga was 1-hit again, this time losing 7-0. Craig Tatum did the honors this night -- in the 8th.
High A: Matt Klinker scattered 6 hits and struck out 5 in his first start for Sarasota, a 1-0 win. Todd Frazier was 1 for 2 with 2 walks, and Zach Stewart worked a perfect 9th for the save, striking out 2.
Low A: Brandon Waring was 2 for 4 in Dayton's 6-3 loss. Devin Mesoraco was 1 for 4.
Rookies: Cody Puckett was 2 for 4 with a double and 3 RBIs as Billings won 7-2. David Sappelt was 2 for 5 with a triple. ... The G-Reds went without a starting pitcher again and lost 3-2. I don't know why they do that. Maybe it's a Gulf Coast thing? ... The D-Reds had only one player with more than 1 hit but won 9-0. Luis Machuca struck out 6 in 7 innings.

Trade day thread, continued

Ted Warren/Associated Press
Here are a few links to keep the conversation going...
Jim Molony looks back on what mlb.com calls the "Disappointing Griffey era."
Jay Mariotti doesn't think the White Sox tried hard enough to improve. Color him unimpressed with Junior.
The Doc: "In hindsight, he never fit. Griffey never embraced Cincinnati. Cincinnati didn’t give him much of a chance. This isn’t a great town for superstars. We don’t cater well. In that respect, Griffey was always too big a presence. He wanted room service. We pointed to the drive-thru."
The Chicago Tribune's Mike Downey is "stoked" about the trade.
The Sporting News says Griffey "isn't an ideal fit" for the White Sox" -- quite an understatement.
And Keith Law likes the deal for both teams, although he calls Griffey "more of a mistake hitter than a true middle-of-the-order bat." He thinks the White Sox's defense will get worse no matter what, and he says Masset might stick as "a sinker-cutter guy in short stints."

Farmers only: Dragons go nards
Triple-A: In his second game of his latest rehab, Jerry Hairston Jr. homered in the Bats' 9-0 win. Chris Dickerson also homered, as did Drew T. Anderson, who went 3 for 5. Ryan Hanigan added 2 hits, and Ben Jukich scattered 7 hits in 8 innings for his first Triple-A win.
Double-A: Tonys Gutierrez's 5th-inning double was the Lookouts' only hit in a 3-1 loss. Another scoreless appearance from Ramon Geronimo.
High A: Logan Parker went 2 for 4 in Sarasota's 7-1 loss.
Low A: Let's start with Neftali Soto's night in Dayton's 14-4, 21-hit win. Soto went 5 for 6 with a 3-run homer and a couple runs. It's hard to believe this guy's only 19. Brandon Waring went 4 for 6 with a homer and 4 RBIs. He leads the Reds' system with 17 homers. Zach Cozart went 3 for 5 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 2 doubles. And Jeremy Horst had another nice start, allowing only 3 hits in 5 innings for the win to improve to 6-2.
Rookies: Kyle Day was 2 for 4 with a double as Billing won 6-2. Byron Wiley was 3 for 4 with a homer. ... Evan Hildenbrandt struck out 7 in 5 innings, allowing just 1 run in the G-Reds' 8-7 loss. ... 18-year-old Daniel Martinez struck out 9 in 5.1 innings as the D-Reds beat the Yankees 1-0. Martinez allowed just 2 hits.

Farmers only: Juan Francisco keeps hitting everything
Triple-A: Paul Janish and Michael Griffin homered to back Ramon Ramirez's 6-strikeout night, but the Bats lost 4-3. Daniel Ray Herrera and Josh Roenicke each struck out 3 in 1.1 scoreless innings.
Double-A: Just 4 hits for the Lookouts in a 1-0 loss. James Avery struck out 6 in 6 scoreless innings, and Ramon Geronimo threw another scoreless inning to lower his season ERA to 0.78 in 39 appearances. His numbers are scary good this season, and being 24 in Double-A isn't a sin.
High A: Juan Francisco was 3 for 5 with a homer (15), Todd Frazier was 2 for 4 with a double and a homer (9, 16) and 4 RBIs and Chris Heisey was a double short of the cycle in Chattanooga's 11-2 win. Logan Parker added 2 doubles. Francisco is batting .439 in his past 10 games with 3 home runs and 17 (!) RBIs. .489 on-base. .829 SLG. Wow.
Low A: Neftali Soto went 3 for 4 with a double, Brandon Waring had 2 hits and Devin Mesoraco was 1 for 4 in Dayton's 6-1 win. Zach Cozart was 0 for 5 :(.
Rookies: Kyle Day had two hits and Lance Janke struck out 7 in Billings' 4-2 win. ... The G-Reds lost 7-0.
