White Sox trade rumor

Per Will Carroll at BP:

The White Sox are still after Billy Wagner, sweetening their offer to include embattled third baseman Joe Crede, in addition to Brandon McCarthy and Damaso Marte. Is Wagner the equivalent (or better) of A.J. Burnett? VORP doesn't think so. Wagner comes in at 17.6 while Burnett is five runs better at 22.6. Still, it's not a bad deal, assuming Ed Wade and Kenny Williams are using the trade analyzer in Team Tracker.

Crede doesn't do much for me: at .253/.307/.443/.750, he's an upgrade on Bell, but not a long-term answer. McCarthy, though, is a stud pitching prospect who's probably comparable, in terms of potential, to Gavin Floyd if not Cole Hamels. And Marte is a more than serviceable lefty flamethrower with strikeout rates comparable to Wagner's (though he issues a lot of walks). For his career, hitters have a .219 average against himn, and he's shown the ability to handle both lefties and righties.

Given the presence of Urbina and the chance to both upgrade right now at 3b, cut our losses in the 'pen and add a big piece for the future in McCarthy, I'd pull the trigger on this one. Though I doubt Wade will.
