According to Phillies Pravda, the Phillies signed 43 year old left-handed pitcher Jamie Moyer to a two-year contract extension worth $10.5 million plus bonuses.
Signing players on the wrong side of 40 to multi-year deals carries obvious and massive risk. It's difficult to evaluate Moyer based on his time in Philadelphia and the small sample sizes involved, but he hasn't really been a good pitcher for a full season since 2003 and it seems far-fetched to imagine a 44 year old pitcher experiencing a career Renaissance pitching in a hitters' park.
