Lieber to DL; Sanches Up

I'm surprised they made the call this quickly--the game has only been over for about an hour--but the Phils are sending nominal ace Jon Lieber to the 15-day disabled list. They've recalled reliever Brian Sanches from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill Lieber's roster spot.

As his 2006 stats show, Sanches has been really terrific for the Red Barons: more than a strikeout per inning, less than a baserunner per, a lone home run allowed in 21.2 innings. Here are his career pro numbers Sanches will be making his major-league debut when he first takes the mound, the fifth Phillie to do so this year.

Unfortunately, that it's him being recalled rather than Eude Brito suggests that Lieber's rotation spot will go to someone currently in the Phils bullpen. Would Manuel really let Boom-Boom Franklin start a game? Perhaps Clay Condrey's great outing tonight, in a fairly extended stretch (4 IP, 45 pitches), will get him the nod.
