May 26: De La Rosa vs. Moyer

New, comments

The Phillies return home from a good-but-not-great road swing through Washington and Houston to find a team wearing the uniforms of the Colorado Rockies, but bearing little else in common with the team that steamrolled the Phils in the National League Division Series last October en route to the pennant. The Rox are missing big lineup contributors Matt Holliday, Brad Hawpe, and Troy Tulowitzki, all on the disabled list, as is Tulo's hard-hitting backup Clint Barmes; third baseman Garrett Atkins is out of tonight's lineup as well.

The injuries are probably the biggest reason Colorado sits at 20-30, 9.5 games off the pace in the NL West, but inconsistent pitching has taken a big toll as well. Jeff Francis, the putative staff ace, is 1-5 with a 6.18 ERA; the Phillies miss him in this series as well as Aaron Cook, the sole bright spot at 7-3, 2.82 after throwing a complete-game four-hitter at the Mets on Sunday. The Rockies throw three young pitchers with a combined record of 2-7 at the Phils this week. Of course, they still do have Todd Helton, who brings his ungodly .395/.497/.710 career line against the Phillies in 295 plate appearances. A hint: pitch around him this week.
