June 17: Lester vs. Moyer

Last week in Florida, Jamie Moyer dominated the Marlins with an eight-inning, two-hit, no-run performance to improve his lifetime record against Florida to 9-0. Tonight, he faces a Red Sox team that has abused him as roughly as he has the Fish. Moyer--who typically saw the Red Sox at least once a year during his long tenure with the Seattle Mariners--is 6-11 with a 6.69 ERA in 22 career appearances (20 starts) against Boston. Perhaps the ugliest number is the 25 home runs Moyer has allowed to Red Sox hitters in 117 innings.

His pitching opponent is young lefty Jon Lester, the cancer survivor turned no-hit hero who brings a 16-5 career record into action tonight. Lester has never faced the Phillies. Yahoo!'s game preview notes that both teams have excellent records against
southpaws: the Phillies are 17-8 while the Red Sox are 10-2.
