If I Were a Carpenter: Phillies at Nationals Game Thread the Second, May 16, 2009

New, 86 comments

After a sometimes thrilling, occassionally nerve-wracking, and ultimately satisfying win over the host Nationals earlier today, the Phillies go for the sweep in tonight's nightcap.

Taking the hill for the Phillies, in his big league debut, is right-hander Drew Carpenter, a last-minute addition after scheduled starter JA Happ pitched two emergency innings in last night's extra inning defeat of Washington. Carpenter is facing erratic (read: wild as [redacted]) Daniel Cabrera, who has walked a mind-boggling 28 batters in 34 1/3 innings, while striking out only 13. Strategy tonight, Phils: Take pitches. Lots of them. Drew is going to need some run support, I suspect.
