You saw this coming? Liar.
As first reported by Todd Zolecki at MLB.com, former Phillies outfielder Jayson Werth has reportedly signed a seven year, $126 million contract with the Washington Nationals.
That's a lot. A lot of years, and a lot of dough, and more or less certifies that the Phillies would in no way have been players for Werth's continued services.
Added downer: Even though we all kinda knew Werth was gone, by signing with the Nationals, the Phillies only get the Nats' second round pick, since they finished in the bottom half of MLB last season, thus protecting their first round pick. Signing with the Red Sox, for instance, would have netted the Phillies a first rounder in the 2011 amateur draft. Nuts.
Goodbye, Jayson. Keep it real.
