We Gon' Sign: Phillies Ink Manager Charlie Manuel to Two-Year Extension

Per the countless minions of Twitter.

UPDATE: Rob Neyer shows some love.

Big news for any number of reasons, not the least of which being that Charlie Manuel is nothing less than the best manager in franchise history. Maybe that's damning with faint praise, but it's hard to argue with results.

Further, this puts to bed the speculative nonsense that would have clogged talk radio and the lesser media outlets had this "dispute" carried over into the season.  Charlie has always been provisionally loved, I think.

Much like with Pat Gillick before him, this current run of Phillies greatness was built at least in part on the backs of his predecessors.  What Ed Wade and Larry Bowa lacked in "people skills," they nonetheless presided over the incubation of this current, championship core.  Manuel has benefitted from a team that really coalesced under Bowa's yoke (even if it was in opposition to his heavy hand/jerkishness).

Now let's all get back to wringing our hands over Chase Utley's knee.
