The Eric Gregg Memorial Invitational: Nationals at Phillies Game Thread, August 12, 2011

My first memory of Livan Hernandez (likely most peoples') was his 15 strikeout performance against the Altanta Braves in Game Five of the 1997 National League Championship Series. The young Livan received more than a little help from homeplate umpire Eric Gregg's generous strike zone.

Fast-forward 15 years. Hernandez is still plying his trade in the National League East, while Gregg, a Philadelphia native, sadly died five years ago.

Enough of that. A very different, crafty Livan Hernandez pitches tonight for the visiting Nationals, versus Cole Hamels for the Phillies.
