Well, that didn't take long. The Philadelphia Phillies have announced that they will not be bringing bench coach Pete Mackanin, first base coach Sam Perlozzo, or hitting coach Greg Gross back for the 2013 season.

Mackanin has long been rumored as a managerial candidate, and may be considered for the anticipated opening on the Boston Red Sox. Gross assumed the hitting coach post midway through the 2010 season when Milt Thompson was fired. Perlozzo had previously held the third base coach spot for the Phillies before moving to first base when Juan Samuel got the job at third.
This will presumably create an opening for Ryne Sandberg on the Phillies' coaching staff. If the franchise is planning a graceful transition from Charlie Manuel to Ryne Sandberg after 2013, could the Hall of Famer get some input into picking Gross and Perlozzo's replacements?
