Phillies Players' 2012 Milestones

Getty Images

It seems somehow frivolous when the sky is falling on the Phillies to be talking about individual milestones that they might reach this season.

Nevertheless, as a show of confidence that they will not average 2.0 runs per game, and might even win more than the current 40 games they are projected to, below are the milestones various Phillies are expected to reach.

Jimmy Rollins

Aside from securing a key defensive position for the next 3 (and likely 4) years, Rollins' new contract allows him to continue his assault on the Phillies' record book. This year alone, if he doesn't miss substantial time, he will finish the season high atop several team career lists:

- 2nd in At Bats (behind Mike Schmidt)
- 2nd in Doubles (Ed Delahanty)
- 2nd in Extra Base Hits (Schmidt)
- 3rd in Runs (Schmidt, Delahanty)
- 3rd in Total Bases (Schmidt, Delahanty), with over 3,000
- 3rd in Stolen Bases (Billy Hamilton, Delahanty), with over 400
- 3rd in Games (Schmidt, Richie Ashburn)
- 4th in Hits (Schmidt, Ashburn, Delahanty), with over 2,000

By the end of 2014 he has a good shot to be the Phillies'...

- all-time leader in ABs, Hits, and Doubles
- 2nd in Games played, Runs scored, Steals, and Total Bases
- 3rd in Triples, 7th in HRs, and 10th in RBIs

More, including the complete list, after the jump...

Ryan Howard

Howard has been the fastest (in games) to both 100 and 200 Home Runs, surpassing Ralph Kiner for both milestones. The record for fewest games to 300 is 1,087 by, again, Kiner. Howard is at 286 homers after 1,027 games, so he will need 14 in his first 59 games to surpass Kiner once again. Last year he didn't hit his 14th until his 66th game of the season.

Another version of this is fewest At Bats to 300, and that's out of reach, as he would need 14 in his first 38 ABs to beat Mark McGwire's record.

Coming soon

- Rollins needs 7 singles to tie Schmidt for 5th on the Phillies' list (1,219)
- He needs 4 walks to tie Greg Luzinski for 10th (572)
- His next Sac Fly will tie him with Bob Boone, Von Hayes, and Mike Lieberthal for 5th (43)
- Jim Thome's 2nd RBI will tie him with Gary Sheffield for 25th on the all-time list
- Juan Pierre needs 2 steals to tie Davey Lopes for 22nd (557), and 3 to tie Brett Butler for 21st (558)

Phillies Projected Milestones -- 2012

- # needed to reach each milestone (e.g. Jimmy Rollins' 11th single will tie him with Mike Schmidt for 5th on the Phils' all-time list, at 1219)
- Rankings refer to the Phillies' career lists, unless specified as All-time ("AT")
