The Phillies wrapped up their troubled 10 game road trip on a high note, defeating the Diamondbacks by a score of 7-2 to finish the trip at a respectable 5-5, and bring their season record to 9-10.
Once again, Cole Hamels was awesome, allowing just one hit through the first six innings, stumbling a bit in the seventh, but allowing just two runs over eight innings pitched. He finished strong, striking out the side in the eighth to finish with eight strikeouts and just one walk. Newly promoted Michael Schwimer pitched a perfect ninth to close it out.
The Phillies struck early, scoring once in the first on an RBI single by Hunter Pence, and nearly scoring again when Carlos Ruiz tried to score from first on a wild pitch, only to get tagged out at home. They really piled on in the sixth, scoring five runs off Diamondbacks' starter Trevor Cahill and reliever Craig Breslow, including a two RBI single from Cole Hamels.
The offensive star of the game for the Phillies was the scuffling Placido Polanco, who was 3-3 with a double and two walks.
The Phillies take Thursday off for a travel day, and return to Philadelphia for a weekend series against the Chicago Cubs.
