The Phillies have placed third baseman Placido Polanco on the 15 day disabled list, retroactive to July 23, due to complete offensive ineptitude lower back inflammation. A corresponding move to fill Polanco's roster spot is expected tomorrow.
Polanco, 36, has only managed a .255/.300/.328 line in 2012. His sole greatest asset, his defense, seems to have taken a hit this season, with his UZR/150 down to 6.0 from a tremendous 16.7 in 2011.
He has particularly struggled lately, posting a .133/.184/.156 line in July.
Polanco had been seen as a longshot trade candidate, with the Orioles in particular showing interest. Well, there goes that.
