And the hits keep on coming! Catcher Carlos Ruiz, whose MVP-level campaign was the sole bright spot on an otherwise disappointing team, has been placed on the disabled list due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot, reports Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. An MRI revealed a partial tear, which will keep him on the shelf for at least four to six weeks.
At this point, it does not make any sense to rush Ruiz back. The biggest regret is that we will not be able to see what Chooch's numbers would have been over a full season. As it was, the numbers were staggering -- a career high 14 home runs, 58 RBIs, and a phenomenal .335/.399/.559, good for a 155 OPS+ and a .407 wOBA, almost without a doubt the best offensive season in history for a Phillies catcher.
The Phillies have called infielder Hector Luna up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Ruiz's spot on the roster.
Fare the well, Choochy.
