BANK FANS BID CHIP A BOO: Creating Memorable Goodbye Signs for Chipper Jones

Doesn't Chipper deserve better than these lame-o efforts? We can do better. We must and we shall. (Photo by Jeff Zelevansky/Getty Images)

For your afternoon's enjoyment, I started a hashtag campaign, #goodbyesigns4chipper, this morning to salute the retiring Braves third baseman as he leaves us forever in Philadelphia. I engaged the best and the brightest minds across the Phillies blogosphere to join me in this campaign. So far so good. I figured that since the Phillies are giving him a gift, the fans should really sign the card, something like:

BUST WISHES ON YOUR RETIREMENT.

Beyond my favorite one so far in the title (the Updike reference is a little lost on the Twitterscape, but I have confidence the well-read group on this blog will get it), lots have chimed in already. Phrozen and I collaborated on a simple LARRY poster (with picture of Bowa) that I salute for its simplicity. Your tastes may vary, but I tend toward the clever, double-entendred, clean language, and thus less-easily/quickly confiscated. Sight gags can work - if you are so inspired (looking at you, Halladayseason and TwistyWristy), the comment thread here is a good art host.

Come join the fun this afternoon. If you're going to the games, a little "Na na, na na na na" serenade at every at-bat this week seem to be a nice way to play this cat off.
