Martin pitched a tremendous game, but the R-Phils lost due to another impotent batting performance. The only earned run scored off Martin came in the 1st on a single and double, but he then cruised through the next six innings, allowing only two baserunners on a 6th-inning infield single and a 7th-inning line drive single. Reading tied it up at 1-1 in the 3rd on a Gillies walk and Asche double, but couldn't score again for the rest of the game. Trenton finally grabbed the lead with two unearned runs in the bottom of the 8th, perhaps because Martin got tired (he finished the game with 113 pitches), although it doesn't seem like they hit anything particularly hard -- the inning went: (1) ground ball single (2) sac bunt (3) safe on error (4) fly out to center (5) ground ball RBI single [pitching change] (6) ground ball RBI single (7) ground out. Trenton then closed it out in the 9th.
Asche was nearly the entire offense, getting three of Reading's five hits. But he made that very costly error in the 8th.
The R-Phils are now trailing the series 2-1 and will send Adam Morgan to the mound tonight to stave off elimination. He will face legit mid-level LHP prospect Nik Turley.
